The first month of the year is mostly pleasant in the holy city of Makkah, which proves to be a great blessing for all the Muslims residing in the countries of northern Europe. They can embark on their journey to this part of the world for their Umrah in the presence of a pleasant climate. This Saudi Arabian city experiences a hot desert climate, which means that the summer temperatures are almost unbearable for those accustomed to the cold climate of their home countries. Thankfully, the period between December and February is characterised by a weather that has comfortable daytime temperatures.

Many Muslims residing in the United Kingdom prefer visiting Makkah during this time of the year for performing their lesser pilgrimage. They can book their January Umrah packages with any of the reliable travel companies in the country providing Hajj and Umrah tours and make their travel affordable and hassle-free. Upon booking these packages several months earlier, they can reduce their overall cost of travel to a great extent. There are several important sites in the holy city of Makkah, which the pilgrims coming from the UK can explore after performing their Umrah.

Among them is a granite hill located in the plain of Arafat, known as ‘Jabal al-Rahmah’ or the Mountain of Mercy. It has a height of about 230 feet and is also called Mount Arafat by many. This is the place where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had delivered the ‘Farewell Sermon’ to the ones who had accompanied him for Hajj. It is also the place where Adam was forgiven, which is indicated by a pillar erected at that particular spot. The January Umrah packages give UK Muslims enough time to make a trip to this place, which is visited by numerous pilgrims, especially during the major pilgrimage of Hajj in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Jabal al-Noor is yet another important Islamic site, which can be explored by Muslims of the UK during their Umrah in January. The name literally translates as the ‘Mountain of Light’ in the Arabic language. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had spent a significant amount of time in the ‘Cave of Hira’ housed in this mountain. It was here that he received the first revelation of the Holy Quran. Jabal al-Noor has a height of 2,100 feet and it requires about 2 hours of hike in order to reach the cave.

Pilgrims can also visit a mountain located on the eastern frontier of Makkah known as Abu Qubais. The origin of this name is still unknown, but the legends state that the mountain was called ‘Al Amin’ during the times when this region was inhabited by the pagan Arabs. It was named so, owing to the presence of a black stone in the mountain. According to another legend, this mountain was the very first place to be inhabited by the first men and buried after their death. This is the place where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had performed the miracle of splitting the moon into two halves and then re-attaching them.
