Visit A City Rich In History With Antalya Holidays
Visited by millions of tourists every year, Antalya is Turkey's popular resort city with a history that dates back to 200 BC. It is located on the Turkish Riviera and has more than a million people living in its metropolitan area. Not so long ago, it was simply looked upon as a gateway to the Turkish Riviera. However, in recent times, it has developed into a renowned travel destination owing to the large-scale developmental activities and significant funding from the government. During your Antalya holidays, you would get to know more about the city, its history and culture while exploring its prominent attractions.
The Old Town or 'Kaleici' would take you to the Ottoman era with attractive cobblestone streets and restored mansions.
This neighbourhood can be an ideal place to enjoy a stroll during your holidays to Antalya and you would also get to shop for some mementoes in its souvenir shops. While taking a walk through this maze-like neighbourhood, you can find several boutique hotels, restaurants, and art galleries along with some interesting tourist attractions. Among them is the Tekeli Mehmet Pasha Mosque and Kesik Minare.
Upon visiting the Old Harbour of Antalya nestled in the cliffs, you would find it difficult to believe that the harbour was once the city's major economic hub. Today, it has a peaceful atmosphere with a few boutiques, bazaars, cafes, and yachts overlooking the Mediterranean. You can enjoy a pleasant sunset while sipping a coffee during your Antalya holidays in one of the cafes at this place. You would have ample opportunities to enjoy swimming by venturing out onto the Mediterranean Sea with an excursion boat. During your time spent in this part of the city, you can also choose to relax on an empty beach or go sightseeing.
If you wish to explore the history of Turkey while holidaying in this city, Antalya Museum would be an ideal place to visit. This museum features many exhibits that have been brought from the excavation sites across the coast of Turkey. All these exhibits have been brilliantly displayed in order to make the rich and rather complicated history of the nation easy to understand for tourists. Displays dating back to the Bronze Age can be found in the archaeological section. If you have ample amount of time with you during your Antalya all inclusive holiday, the galleries exhibiting mosaics from Seleukeia, Aspendos, and Perge can be explored.
Yivliminare Mosque is one particular attraction you just cannot afford to miss during your sightseeing trips. It was built in the 13th century by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan, Alaaddin Keykubad I and features a fluted minaret known as the Yivli Minare. This minaret is decorated with tiles of dark blue shade and is a symbol and popular landmark of Antalya. The new mosque was built on the foundation of a Byzantine church by the Hamidids after the original was destroyed in the 14th century. After having explored all the popular places of Antalya, you can also go for holidays to Marmaris if you wish to enjoy a little more of the Turkish Riviera.
