Fatehpur Sikri , originally named Sikri, was founded when Fatehpur (Victory Town) was erected to celebrate Akbar's conquest of Gujarat in June 1573. Emperor Akbar was laid to rest at Sikandra another architectural marvel. It was also the famous dwelling place and khanqah of Shiekh Salim Chishti, the famous Sufi saint whom Akbar revered for blessing him with child.
Akbar started building his own mausoleum, but his son Jehangir completed his tomb, popularly known as Sikandra after Sikandra Lodi. The tomb has three-storeyed red sandstone minarets and beautiful gardens surrounding the mausoleum.
Agra is also home to other structures like Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb, often referred to as ‘Baby Taj', owing to the similarity in architecture between the two, Chini Ka Rauza and Soami Bagh Samadh which are included in most of the Agra packages.
