Bangalore has natural parks, architectural landmarks, flowering trees, research institutions and shopping malls. But the city is nicknamed as "City of Gardens" as Bangalore has large number of parks and gardens. Bangalore is blessed with a pleasant climate. All these have made Bangalore a city of paradise for the tourists. The advent of large number of information technology companies in the past few decades has also turned the Garden City into a fast growing cosmopolitan city.
Now Bangalore is known by several aliases - India's Silicon Valley, Shopper's Paradise, Air-conditioned City, Gourmet's Delight, Shopper's Hot Spot and Pub City.
The city was earlier known as Bengaluru and the British rulers changed it to Bangalore. According to legends, in the 11th century, Hoysala king Veer Ballala lost his way during his hunting expedition in the forest. A woman in the forest served the king boiled beans and he was apparently happy. The king named the place "Benda-kaal-Uru", meaning the town of boiled beans and it was later known as Bengaluru. Now the city has got its original name Bengaluru. Bangalore was founded by Kempegowda in 1537.
Lal Bagh is a botanical garden frequented by visitors. Commissioned by the Hyder Ali in 1760, the park, situated in an area of 240 acres, is home for 1000 species of flora. The park has a wonderful Glass House. The Lal Bagh Rock there dates back to 3000 million years. Cubbon Park, located in the heart of the city, is home to numerous trees and plants.
Among the historical monuments, Tipu Sultan' Summer Palace is a two-storeyed ornate wooden structure. It was built in 1791. Bangalore Palace was constructed in 1862. It looks like a smaller replica of Windsor Castle in England. Mayo Hall, built in memory of Lord Mayo, is a symbol of British architecture. Among the newly-built buildings, Vidhan Soudha houses the state legislature of Karnataka. Built in 1956, it is an imposing granite building.
Bangalore is known for beautiful lakes. They include Ulsoor Lake which attracts large number of people every day. Sankey tank, Hesaraghatta Lake, Nagavara Lake, Yediyur Lake, Madiwala Lake, Hebbal Lake, Kempanbudi Lake and Varthur Lake are among the other lakes in Bangalore.
There are popular places of worship in the city for all religions. Among the temples are Bull Temple, built in the 16th century, and Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple. St. Mary's Basilica is the oldest church in the Garden City. Infant Jesus Church is another popular church. Among the mosques are Jumma Masjid, Masjid-e-Khadrik and Dargah Hazarat Tawakkal Masjid. There is an ISKCON temple also.

Jaipur, a major tourist attraction for Indian and foreign travellers, is the first planned city in India. It is a part of the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Jaipur is called the Pink City as the buildings within the walled city are painted in pink. Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, got its name from its founder Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1744).
Jaipur is known for its huge forts, palaces, temples, monuments and gardens. Among the forts, Amber Fort was the palace of the rulers from 1600 to 1727. Resplendent in its rich royal history, vivid traditions and ancient cultures, the city of Jaipur is perhaps one of the most prominent cities in the state of Rajasthan. Built by sawai Jai Singh in 1722, the city is one of the most important tourism industries in the state and even the country.
The Pink City of Rajasthan boasts of a magnificent collection of palaces, forts, and other architecturally brilliant monuments. Situated about 260 km from the national capital city of Delhi, it is part of the popular tourism golden triangle comprising of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Famous for its palaces, forts and other monuments, one of the most prominent among Jaipur's palaces is the City Palace Complex. Situated right in the heart of the city, the complex consists of the Mubarak Mahal, once the palace of welcome or reception. The Mubarak Mahal is now a museum and has a wide array of ancient royal costumes, jewellery, Sanganeri prints and folk embroidery among others. Another prominent structure inside the complex is the Maharani's Palace, which was the Queen's palace and now houses an exquisite collection of the royal weapons preserved in impeccable conditions. The complex at present also houses an art gallery inside the Diwan-e-Aam (hall of public audience). Diwan-e-Khas (private hall) is a beautiful marble paved pavillion which has on display two gigantic silver sterling vessels, which held holy water from the Ganges for the king. It is rumoured that the king only drank from this holy water. The Palace cafe is a new age multi cuisine restaurant serving delicious food for the weary visitors. The royal family still occupies part of the Chandra Mahal palace whose ground floor is still open to visitors.
Another very prominent attraction here is the Jantar Mantar, one of the five observatories in India. Built by Sawai Jai Singh, this structure is one of the largest and most well preserved ones in the country. Ram Niwas garden was a favourite spot during Sawai Jai Singh's reign for recreational activities. The famous Albert Hall is situated right in the middle of this large garden and displays a rich collection of art-de-facts paintings, exquisite carpets, sculptures made of ivory, stone and metal and even beautiful crystals. Sawai Pratap Singh built the famous Hawa Mahal also called palace of winds mainly for the royal ladies to view the everyday life of the people of the city. Today it is a very prominent feature of the city. The Amber Fort, situated just outside Jaipur is a blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Sawai Singh later.
