Coldframes Vs Greenhouses    By: kelly.pedrettizj
A lot of people when they are looking to obtain a greenhouse actually do not understand one crucial part. They automatically assume that since they are obtaining a greenhouse that it has the capabilities to grow plants within its walls. Any structure that is retorted as being a greenhouse is able to house many different plant times and does not have any regards for the environment outside of the dwelling. In fact, people opt to obtain a greenhouse simply because any adverse weather conditions that their plants could face being outside are eliminated. Plants that are grown in a greenhouse are normally referred to as being grown in a controlled environment. Greenhouses are known as controlled environments because you actually control the temperature within the glass house. One thing that many people do not know concerning greenhouses is that many of the plant growing dwellings that are sold on the market are actually not greenhouses. The structures are actually known as cold frames. Cold frames differ from greenhouses in a lot more respects than many people even know. Being able to tell the difference between a cold frame and a greenhouse is crucial to your growing plants survival rate. The cold frame is defined as a structure that can be used in order to elongate your growing time by the course of a few weeks. These structures do not have a temperature setting that you can adjust to your liking. In fact, cold frames do not have any temperature controls at all within them. The temperature inside the cold frames is generated by the radiation that comes off of the sun. Be advised that if you live somewhere, where the winter does not let a lot of sunlight come shining through, then a cold frame may not be the best avenue to take. Being able to properly tell the difference between the greenhouse structure and a cold frame is going to allow you to make better decisions as a gardener. If you simply cannot decipher the differences between the two structures, ask for assistance from someone who deals with the structures on a daily basis, or commence in doing some research so you can have a picture in your head of the two different structures; Thus, making it a lot easier for you to decide on your desired plant growing space.(read entire article)(posted on: 2009-12-22)
