Fan Performance Chart   By: Oleg Tchetchel
The fan chart is a table presentation of fan performance. It is one of the most useful tools available during the fan selection process. While multi-rating tables are convenient (see page 12), performance curves offer additional information such as - how much reserve pressure head exists between the design pressure and the peak static pressure, the maximum power the fan might draw, and the efficiency of operation.(read entire article)

Fans For Chemical Process   By: Oleg Tchetchel
Petrochemicals industry provides the widest range of challenges for rotating equipment. NIS-CO Fan (New York) fans and blowers operate in conditions encompassing extreme pressure and temperature, and handle a wide range of gases containing aggressive and toxic components. Demanding specifications and strict safety requirements must be met and above all is the need for dependable operation over long periods.(read entire article)

Fiberglass Blower Ventilators   By: Oleg Tchetchel
When fiberglass is the selected material for an air-handling system, it is logical that the fan also be made of FRP. For example, the acids used in the pickling of stainless steel are necessarily those that attack stainless steel. In such a system, the acid resistant tanks, fume control hoods, ducts, air and gas scubbers, and fans are often made of FRP because FRP resists acid corrosion and costs less than metal alloys having comparable resistance.(read entire article)

Frp Blower Fan Ventilator   By: Oleg Tchetchel
Fumes are the dry vapors evolved from acids, solvents, etc. An example is the dry acid vapor scavenged from a process using acid. As a generalization, fumes are not as corrosive as aerosols. Aerosols are suspensions of liquids or solids in a gas stream. For the purpose of this discussion, aerosols are considered as quite dilutebeing wet. Water as fog is an example of an aerosol. Another example is the mist of acid present in air scavenged from a process where acid is being used as a spray wash. As a generalization for the purpose of estimating corrosiveness, aerosols in fan driven systems can be considered as being dilute concentrations of the chemicals composing the aerosols. An example of the distinction between fumes and aerosols is a system where sulfuric acid fumes are collected by hoods and scrubbed. The dry fumes entering the scrubber could be quite concentrated but have a relatively mild corrosive effect on the hood and duct material. On the other hand, the wet gas down streamfrom the scrubber could be quite dilute but more corrosive because of the scrubber's converting the fumes to an aerosol.(read entire article)

High Pressure Side Channel Blowers   By: Oleg Tchetchel
Channel blowers are oilless and have no complicated intake/exhaust valving. Most can be mounted in any plane and, with dynamically balanced impellers, generate little vibration. Because they are nonpositive displacement compressor/vacuum pumps, they discharge air that is clean and pulsation free, which are important considerations for today's plant instruments and controls.(read entire article)

High Temperature Exhaust Ventilators   By: Oleg Tchetchel
SBCCI is a not-for-profit organization of government officials from the United States and several foreign governments, which serves a strong leadership role in the delivery of model building codes. The purpose of the NFPA can be summarized into three main categories. First, NFPA promotes the science and improves the methods of fire protection and prevention, electrical safety, and other related safety goals. Secondly, it obtains and circulates information on these subjects. And thirdly, it secures the cooperation of its members and the public in establishing proper safeguards against loss of life and property. The fourth organization is Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.. UL is a non-profit, independent organization that maintains and operates laboratories for examination and testing of devices, systems and materials to determine their relation to life, casualty hazards and crime prevention. UL has three safety standards that apply to emergency smoke exhaust products. UL705 is concerned with the mechanical and electrical construction to insure safe operation. All electrical components (motor, wiring, switches, enclosures, etc.) must be ULlisted. UL793 is concerned with the lifting mechanism for the butterfly dampers and the fusible link. In order for a product to be listed in the UL Directory under ŇPower Ventilators for Smoke Control Systems, it must meet the requirements of both UL705 and UL793. Additionally, UL must witness a full-scale test of a fan operating for the required time at the specified elevated and temperature.(read entire article)

High Temperature Fans Blowers   By: Oleg Tchetchel
When fans are exposed to elevated temperatures, many aspects of the fan design must be reviewed to make sure the fan will withstand the extreme temperatures and that the fan is appropriately designed for the application. The fan engineer must understand the limitations of materials and various failure mechanisms, such as high stress, stress to rupture, and creep. Sometimes, it is necessary to consider high cycle fatigue, low cycle fatigue in cyclical operation with speed changes, and numerous start-stop cycles. If rapid temperature changes are encountered, transient analysis may be required due to thermal stresses. Depending on the exposed temperature levels, the following are to be considered: • Materials of construction for the wheel, shaft, and hub • Wheel to hub attachment • Materials of construction for the housing including insulation • Bearings and lubrication • Shaft seals • Shaft cooling (air-cooled, water-cooled, etc.)(read entire article)
