Lion Skins
Lions are one of the big cats in the genus Panther. Panther is a genus within the Felidae family that was named and first described by the German naturalist Oken in 1816 Lions might be historically depicted as the “king of the jungle.”,Lions were mostly found at Asia and Europe. However, now they are discovered in only two regions of the world due to the excessive use of lion skins in different products. Asiatic lions live in Indian Forests while African lions stay in critical and southern Africa.
Although they look similar, those two subspecies are very exceptional in size, habitat, diet and many more.
The African lions typical weight 265 to 420 lbs. (120 to 191 kilograms) where as asian lions weigh 300 to 500 lbs. (120 to 226 kg)
In 2015 the IUCN stated that “The Lion population is inferred to have undergone a reduction of approximately 42% over the past 21 years (approximately three Lion generations, 1993-2014)” and estimated that fewer than 20,000 lions remain. This is basically rapidly increasing because of the illegal sale of lions body parts specially their skin and teeth’s in international ...
... black market.
After drugs and ammunition trade comes this horrible business of wildlife trade. This black market of wildlife is valued as the third largest illegal trade in the world and one of the most profitable crimes of today. Around $10 million worth of illegal wildlife is seized at US borders every year and this is only the worth of item that is seized imagine how much worth it is of the products gets exported from black market. China has always been the biggest consumer of the wildlife produce, placing itself on the first spot while the West European countries and Far East are the third largest chunk of buyers while Africa, Central Asia, and the Caribbean are emerging as the largest sellers of illegal lion skins.
On my personal visit to one of the biggest lion skin black market seller Farmer’s Market I’ve seen the black market rates of tiger skin as $50,000-55,000.
This black market sale of lion skin needs to be stopped as early as possible before our future world would regret for their deeds and the children’s of our grand children’s would unable to see lions ever..
