7 tried and tasted eco-friendly carpet cleaning methods

A beautiful carpet with vivid colors at your home can bring the grandeur and panache to the overall persona of your house. This might be the reason; the carpet is still considered as one of the most popular and widely used decors in home interior designing. Carpets allow you the broad range of advantages than any other type of flooring options.
Though carpets can bring a unique character to your house, it also requires regular maintenance and cleaning. As the carpets grow old, they harbor a lot of things such as dust, microbes, allergens and much more. These unseen dangers can affect the overall cleanliness and hygienic environment of your house. Carpets which are cleaned regularly can welcome a number of diseases and allergies inside your house without even being noticed. So, the obvious question arises in a person's mind is how to avoid such hygiene issues and how to clean your carpets without putting many efforts? Using detergents for the carpet cleaning can be perilous as most of these detergents are quite strong and they might affect the dye ...
... of the carpets by giving patches on it. So here are some eco-friendly tips which will help you to clean and maintain your carpet efficiently.

Tip 1: If you have grease on your carpet, corn starch is very helpful for soaking it up. A solution made up of water and cornmeal is a super absorbent. You can also use a solution of vinegar with a wet spotter. A wet spotter is a solution made of one part dishwashing detergent, one part glycerine, and eight parts water.

Tip 2: While maintaining the old carpets, sweep the carpet well enough to raise the fibers when they lay flat. Make a mixture of one part borax with two parts corn meal and sprinkle on your carpet before vacuuming and you will be surprised knowing the wonders it can make with your carpet.

Tip 3: Shoes are the greatest vehicles of dirt, particles, and many such things. To keep the health of your carpet, have everyone in the house take off their shoes before coming in. Walking barefoot is certainly not recommended, however, as oil in the skin can also have a bad effect on the carpet. Slippers or at least socks are best. You can use doormats which can remove the major portion of dust from your footwear. Vacuum these doormats frequently.

Tip 4: If something is spilled on your carpet, clean it immediately. Vacuum dry the spills right away and blot wet spills with a sponge or an absorbent cloth.

Tip 5: If you have decided to buy carpet cleaners, then stay away from acid rinses such as hydroxyacetic acid and harmful solvents such as glycol ethers. Do not buy chemicals like tributyltin and formaldehyde
which are designed to kill microorganisms, but these chemicals are toxic to humans too.

Tip 6: Refer the Households products database of National Institute of health before buying any carpet shampoo or powder. This database consists information about around 7,000 consumer brands.

Tip 7: If you decide to have a professional carpet cleaning company, choose a company that talks about its commitment to the environment. But, do not trust any company blindly. Question the carpet cleaning staff about their cleaning methods and ask for the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for any cleaning products they’ll use in your home.

Just cleaning your carpet is not sufficient. You need to be very careful about the cleaning methods and products you use to keep the carpet durable and as fresh as new for years.
