Which Factors Determine Your Solar Pool Heating Budget?

Summer doesn’t feel complete until you’ve had some quality pool time. The water feels nice and warm against your skin and leaves you feeling refreshed. Winters, however, are a different story. Chilly winds and freezing temperatures put an end to your pool activities, and the only way to swim comfortably is by installing a pool heater. However, gas and electric heaters rack up energy expenses quite fast. A more cost-efficient and environmentally sound option is solar power. No wonder, solar pool heating has become popular in Tampa and other US cities. If you are considering switching to a solar pool heater, remember the following points to make the most out of your installation in the most cost-effective way:

Pool Size

The size of your pool determines how long you need to run your solar pool heater. An average sized pool takes 24 to 72 hours to heat up properly. Larger pools require more time. Since different solar pool heaters have different working capacities, you need to make sure you buy a heater that is powerful enough to heat up your pool. A less-than-efficient heater would take longer to raise the temperature of the pool water, thereby increasing the costs. On the other hand, it makes no sense to buy a solar pool heater meant for larger pools. After all, why should you waste money on equipment meant for a bigger and costlier model when the smaller version would work just fine?

Size of Solar Collectors

It’s one thing to buy a pump that is perfect for your indoor pool, it’s an entirely different thing to purchase solar collectors responsible for raising the temperature of your pool. The trick is to invest in solar collectors that equal 50 to 100 percent of your swimming pool’s surface area. This will allow the water in your pool to heat up quickly. The cost might increase if you live in a colder area as the ratio of the pool collectors to the surface area increases, so keep this in mind when establishing your solar pool heating budget.

Installation

Does your solar heater come with an installation kit? It may or it may not. However, this is the one thing that you cannot bypass when installing a heater. Make room in your budget to buy items such as bolts, pipes, and screws. If you have never installed a heater before you may consider consulting someone who has to understand what exactly you need for the installation. We suggest leaving the installation part to a professional. Not only does this cut down on wasted time, but you also end up paying less.

Remember, there are certain aspects of using solar power that is beyond your control. For instance, a person who opts for solar pool heating in Tampa can enjoy a faster heating at a lesser amount of time than someone residing in a colder region. However, either way, solar power is way better than fossil fuels and is the definite way to go.
