Sai baba of shirdi quotes

Shirdi sai baba was a enlightened mystic from shirdi village in Maharashtra. He is equally revered by Hindus and Muslims. His samadhi temple in Shirdi is one of the most popular and visited spiritual place in Maharashtra.

Sai baba main message was of love, helping people, charity, universal brotherhood, contentment, forgiveness, living a detached life and devotion to guru. He lived an ascetic life and helped everyone who came to him. But to his followers and disciples, he asked them to live an householder life without any attachment to worldly things. He also gave importance to prayer and to chanting the name of god. He also advised to read holy scriptures and to live a honest life.

He never distinguished people based on their caste, religion or financial status. All were equally invited and loved in his presence. One of this most famous saying is “sabka malik ek” meaning “one god governs all”.

Shirdi sai baba performed many miracles like bilocation (being in two locations at same time), levitation, mind reading, materialisation of things, exorcisms, entering a state ...
... of samadhi at will (once his body was lifeless for 3 days), lighting lamps with water (this happened when villagers refuse to donate oil to him for burning holy lamp), removing his limbs or intestines and sticking them back to his body (khandana yoga), curing the incurably sick (that he did on numerous occasions. every time he used to attribute this to ‘god will’ and used to say “allah malik” meaning ‘god is kind’), appearing beaten when another person was beaten (this is the case of ’empathy’ and used to happen with sri ramakrishna paramhansa also), stopping the storms, preventing a mosque from falling down on people, and helping his devotees in a miraculous way. he also gave darshan (vision) to people in the form of rama, krishna, vithoba and many other gods depending on the faith of devotees.

He also said that “trust in me and your prayer shall be answered”. Many people prayers have been answered on visiting shirdi sai baba temple in shirdi village. No wonder it is not only the most visited temple in Maharashtra but also one of the richest temple in india.

Shirdi sai baba 11 “assurances” to his devotees:

1. No harm shall befall him, who steps on the soil of shirdi.
2. He who comes to my samadhi, his sorrow and suffering shall cease.
3. Though I be no more in flesh and blood, I shall ever protect my devotees.
4. Trust in me and your prayer shall be answered.
5. Know that my spirit is immortal, know this for yourself.
6. Show unto me him who has sought refuge and has been turned away.
7. In whatever faith men worship me, even so do I render to them.
8. Not in vain is my promise that I shall ever lighten your burden.
9. Knock, and the door shall open, ask and it shall be granted.
10. To him who surrenders unto me totally I shall be ever indebted.
11. Blessed is he who has become one with me.

Shirdi sai baba quotes and sayings:

1. Sabka malik ek. (meaning one god governs all).

2. Allah Malik. (meaning ‘god is kind’).

3. Unless there is some relationship or connection, nobody goes anywhere. if any men or creatures come to you, do not discourteously drive them away, but receive them well and treat them, with due respect. shri hari (god) will be certainly pleased, if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and your verandah (courtyard) to strangers for sitting and resting.

4. Let us love and serve each other and be happy.

5. He, who attain the supreme goal of life, is immortal and happy; all others merely exist.

6. “God lives in all beings and creatures, whether they be serpents or scorpions. he is the great wirepuller of the world, and all beings, serpents, scorpions etc. obey his command. unless he will it, nobody can do any harm to others. the world is all dependent on him, and no one is independent. So we should take pity and love all creatures, leave off adventurous fights and killings and be patient. The lord (god) is the protector of all.

7.If you spread your palms with devotion before me, i am immediately with you, day and night. Though, i am here bodily, still I know what you do; beyond the seven seas. Go wherever you will, over the wide world, i am with you.

8. My abode is in your heart and i am within you. Always worship me, who is seated in your heart, as well as, in the hearts of all beings, blessed and fortunate, indeed, is he who knows me thus.

9. Though I have become a fakir, have no house or wife, and though leaving off all cares, I have stayed at one place, the inevitable maya teases me often. Though I forgot myself I cannot forget her. She always envelops me. This maya (illusive power) of the lord (shri hari) teases god brahma and others; then what to speak of a poor fakir like me? those who take refuge in the lord will be freed from her clutches with his grace”.

10. For seeing brahman (realizing the self) one has to give five things, (i.e. surrender five things) (1) five pranas (vital forces), (2) five senses (five of action and five of perception), (3) mind, (4) intellect and (5) ego. this path of brahma-jnana of self-realization is ‘as hard as to tread on the edge of a razor.

11. Do not try to get mantra or upadesh from anybody. make me the sole object of your thoughts and actions; and you will, no doubt, attain paramartha (the spiritual goal of life). look at me whole-heartedly, and i in turn look at you similarly. sitting in this masjid, i speak the truth, nothing but the truth. no sadhanas, nor proficiency in the six shastras, are necessary. have faith and confidence in your Guru. believe fully, that guru is the sole actor or doer. blessed is he who knows the greatness of his guru and thinks him to be hari, hara and brahma (trimurti) incarnate.”

12. To get the knowledge (realization) of the self, dhyana (meditation) is necessary. if you practice it continuously, the vrittis (thoughts) will be pacified. being quite desireless, you should meditate on the lord, who is in all the creatures, and when the mind is concentrated, the goal will be achieved.

13. Meditate always on my formless nature, which is knowledge incarnate, consciousness and bliss. if you cannot do this, meditate on my form from top to toe as you see here night and day. as you go on doing this, your vrittis will concentrate on one point and the distinction between the dhyata (meditator), dhyana (act of meditation), dhyeya (this meditated upon) will be lost and the meditator will be one with the consciousness and be merged in the brahman.

14. The (mother) tortoise is on one bank of the river, and her young ones are on the other side. She gives neither milk, nor warmth to them. Her mere glance gives them nutrition. the young ones do nothing, but remember (meditate upon) their mother. the tortoise glance is, to the young ones, a down-pour of nectar, the only source of sustenance and happiness. Similar is the relation, between the guru and disciples.”
