Hamsa meaning 5 in Arabic and Hand of Fatima associated with the blessings of Fatima, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad meaning pure and sacred have become popular symbols in jewelry. These symbols have existed since ages and continue to charm people even in the modern times. However, the variety has increased with time depending on the demand of the Hamsa Necklaces. The symbolism is associated with Islamic faith and Jewish beliefs and reminds them of the shared religious history. This provides a feeling of brotherhood thus spreading love, peace and harmony among people and races.

The Hamsa necklace is generally worn in the Middle East and North African countries to ward off the evil eye. But it has been accepted worldwide as a style statement too. Women of every age are found wearing the hamsa necklace. In fact, it has quite an androgynous look which makes it suitable for men to wear as well. Most of the times it is made from metal and silver. It has intricate design on it depicting other signs as well. The hamsa necklace can appear in two forms. One with the actual Hamsa Necklace with asymmetrical hand and single thumb and the other with two symmetrical thumbs making it more stylish. Sometimes they come studded with stones and at other times without stones.

Among the other symbols found inside the Hamsa hand pendant necklace are eye, dagger, fish, flower and sometimes the Star of David. These designs depend on the country the jewelry is being crafted and sold. The designs are based on the racial or religious relevance. The unique antique pieces are usually expensive and appear brilliant. They are of course worth a lot more than just being a style statement. Those are usually crafted from silver. The price of a Hamsa necklace depends on the design on it. The more elaborate the design, the more is the price.

Wearing a hamsa necklace depends on one’s belief, taste and also religion at times. Though it has been widely accepted in the western culture now, it still is found mostly in Middle East and African countries. Jews and Islamic followers wear it quite often. They wear it mostly for religious purpose and to represent their beliefs. In fact, it also is worn by Jews and Islamic people to symbolize their unity. One can wear it with the belief that it will keep the evil off belonging to any religion as well. Since, it has a multicultural root and significance; the necklace can be worn by anybody belonging to any race and culture. Moreover, it looks great with any attire.

It is also associated with the theme of femininity which can be an attraction for many people. Some people also treat it like a spiritual symbol and not just a religious one. Even an atheist can wear it purely for its aesthetic appeal.
