Building a wine cellar at home is beneficial for the wine lovers. However, it is a well-known fact that a wine cellar consumes a lot of space. Apart from that, the price issues for installing a wine cellar also shades cloud over the process. So, the question is, what should a wine lover do then? A Frenchman had found the answer in 1978. Georges Harnois had designed the spiral cellars for modern homes. These cellars can be placed underground and they do not consume enough space as well. Over the period, the construction ideas and designs for spiral cellars have changed.
Wine cellar-design is indeed an idea of generated by deep thoughts and proper planning. Those, who have a passion for wines, can only feel the need of placing a wine cellar at home. A properly designed wine cellar is more like a bar, where you can sit with your friends and enjoy a private boozing session. However, not many of the modern homeowners can enjoy such a benefit. The financial expenditure is one of the burdens for that, followed by inadequate space issues. Considering these facts, installation of a spiral cellar can be called beneficial.

How to install spiral cellar
A spiral cellar is an underground storage. In order to build a spiral wine cellar, it is important to dig a hole. The diameter of the hole should be around 2000mm. Thick butyl waterproof-liner should be installed there afterward to make it watertight. Then, one after one pre-cast module of concrete should be planted inside. It will eventually form a honeycomb where the bottles can be stored and ventilation pipes will be set. The installation of artificial cooling systems underground will depend on the individual weather and atmospheric conditions of different areas.
The door of the spiral cellar will be a trap door. That door should be blended with the flooring so that when people are walking on the foreground, they do not stumble on the cellar door. Usually, wooden doors or glass doors are installed as spiral cellar doors.
In an underground spiral cellar, you can store as much wine you need (according to the capacity of the cellar) at a comparatively lower maintenance cost. However, while the cellar is created inside the building (even though underground), the issue of wine storage design according to your own choice naturally falls in the middle of the conversation.
Designing spiral cellars
A spiral cellar is a place where you can store wines, but that will certainly not accommodate a wide space like a wine cellar built on the foreground. Before installing a spiral cellar, the homeowners should decide about the capacity of the cellar so that the builders can create it accordingly. The wine cellar builders will also help to set up the lights inside the cellar (usually, light is a negligible factor in a cellar and users need to turn it on while looking for wine bottles inside). The spiral cellar should be built at the coolest place in the underground or basement, but you should ensure easy access to it whenever required.
The wine cellar may be a small one or a large one –the homeowner may choose the size according to his or her preference during the time of installation.
In this regard, looking at the foreground cellar design may help those who are looking to create a wine cellar on the foreground. Wine cellar designs on the foreground require several types of installations to ensure that the changes of the atmospheric conditions do not affect the temperature of the cellars. The cellars need insulations and vapor barriers for maintaining the humidity and cold temperature inside. The humidity level should be around 75% while the temperature should not increase beyond 550 F. However, maintaining all these basic factors, homeowners may choose different themes for their wine cellars to make it look better.
Cellar installation and quality of wines
Cellars are the places where you can store wines, but whether they help to maintain the quality of wines or not is a question for many. The answer of it cannot be given directly. The taste of wines changes as they mature. The wine cellars help to preserve wine in the house, but that preservation is not meant to stop the changes to the wines. It is better not to be confused with the wine cellar designs and the changes in the quality of wines.
In order to talk regarding the underground spiral cellars, it can be mentioned that these cellars actually help to keep the wines in their natural conditions for a certain time. In the earlier times, people used to store wines undergrounds. The underground cellars have actually restored the process. While talking regarding a spiral cellar or an underground cellar, it can be mentioned that people who nurture obsessions for good wines will find such an installation a noteworthy and valuable investment.
