A scientific dissertation should not make moral judgments, and therefore, use incorrect/correct to refer the factual data. One should avoid all types of qualitative assessments.

“Today”, “ Modern times”

Avoid these because today is tomorrow’s yesterday and soon modern times will be changed. So these words should be avoided in the dissertation.

“Kind of”, “type of”, “something like”

The use of these is vague & colloquial. And, this is something that should not be included in a dissertation because it seems like you are misguiding your university professor.

Jokes and informal sentences

You will not include these if your senses are working fine because the dissertation is a formal document and traces of these may be responsible for low grades or rejection of the document.

“Hopefully the program....”

If you are writing a dissertation on the computer programs, or something similar, then take utmost care and do not include this. Computer programs either run or do not get executed. There is no ‘hope’ involved.

“A famous researcher said..”

Either mention the name or just do not include this because the famous researcher may be a ‘renowned’ person or any ‘scholar’ studying in the university.

Do not overlook the logic and authenticity

Your dissertation should be a formal paper that has correct sentences logically and practically. Nothing should be vague and illogical. Also, your sentences and paragraphs should be short and simple so that the reader gets each and every point.

Do not deviate from the topic

One of the most common mistakes by the scholars is that they get distracted from the topic assigned to them and start explaining something which is totally irrelevant. This makes them lose grades and sometimes their university professor rejects the dissertation and asks for the rework.
