Many of you may have planned to buy excavator to complete the projects in hand or thinking to buy either new or used excavator keeping the future projects in the mind. We have seen, People are not much worried at the time of buying new Excavator, but they are extra conscious, and scared of investing in any used machine.

It is advisable to take proper precaution and minutely inspect the used machine to ensure that you are not investing your money in the wrong excavator. Buyers make sure that they are buying fit and well-maintained excavator because repairing and servicing can be expensive.

There are few important points which we must consider when going to inspect the used Excavators.

Check for Play/Movement

The first thing you should check is slew ring of the hydraulic excavator because the broken slew ring cost you heavily in repairing or replacing in used excavators. You should check Slew ring for any movement or play and also ensure smooth and tight movement when excavator housing is rotated.

Check all the connection points, particularly between stick, boom, and bucket and see the movement of these parts.

Check Leaks

Check the cylinders, hoses, and lines to ensure there is no leakages in hydraulic cylinders, Leaks in the cylinders indicate the misuse of the machine by the owners. The buyer should open the hydraulic pump compartment and check for any types of leaks. If there any leaks found, make sure the owner of the machine repair it before handing over to you for safe and smooth operation.

Properly check the engine oil leakages, air cleaner system, and cooling system. The damaged cooling system could cause engine overheat.

Check for Scalloping

Check the excavator bucket teeth for scalloping, due to excessive use of the bucket, the shape of teeth bends and warps which could reduce its digging efficiency Even with the half-moon shape teeth can be operational but loses its efficiency. It indicates bucket need to be replaced.

Check Hour Meter

Every machine has a limited working life span, so do for excavator, so always prefer the excavator which used for lesser hours. Therefore, it is suggested to check the hour meter to ensure a correct number of hours is logged on the machine. In case, meter hour is not working, then check the control pedals for wear. The high amount of wear on the pedals indicates hydraulic excavator has extra operating hours logged than noted.

Check the Cracks at Connection Points

The Excavator is very costly construction equipment; it requires to be operated with care and needs regular maintenance to avoid any damage at connection points and for smooth functioning for a longer period. At the time of purchasing second-hand excavators, you make sure that all connection points (between boom and stick or stick and bucket) are in proper condition. The crack and bend in any part is the sign of rough use of the machine by the previous owner and repairing or replacing cost you heavily. So it is wiser to check these connections.

It is advisable to go along with the operator or technician when going to inspect the used excavators because they have a better understanding of the different parts, connections, and engine of the machine. Their expertise will help you to avoid investing in the wrong machine or help you to buy a better machine.
