Seo Scope As A Career In India: For Seo By Seo
Total Articles: 16
Last week I received two back-to-back messages from youth via LinkedIn's Message & email. Both are graduates of technology and about to join SEO as a career. They were looking for advice on the scope of SEO in India.
Well, Indian companies are slowly feeling the importance of free movement and SEO sales. I was recently called by one of the leading car companies in India for their digital marketing requirement before I got a call from the main FMCG company for their SEO requirement. It amazed me because when an automotive company / FMCG company can be aware of their online presence, probably IT MNC would be more aware of it. So, the future seems more secure and brighter in SEO.
But it is a career advice that will play a crucial role in the lives of young people joining SEO, so I had to think twice before suggesting anything to them.
Finally, after a lot brainstorming, I thought why not write a complete blog based on my trip as an SEO. Also, I contacted some industry professionals established on their thoughts on the scope of SEO as a career in India.
Before writing yet, some tips on why you should not join SEO?
• You should definitely not join SEO if
• You are not ready to stay hungry. Things change overnight.
• You do not like to experiment and want to follow an old way of doing things every time
• You just want a 9 AM-5PM job
Read on if you still want to join SEO.
Is SEO a Recognized Career?
Recently I read somewhere that LearnToday.in (Online Course India Today Group) introduced SEO training and courses for freshers graduates in India.
There are Google, Yahoo certifications in online marketing that are useful in career advancement. Besides SEO in India is a recognized career now with its introduction as a subject in the MBA program.
Companies that offer SEO jobs
As I said earlier, the good news is that Indian companies are slowly understanding the importance of organic grading and free traffic. Major brands and multinationals now affect some marketing budgets to digital marketing, including SEO.
Apart from that, majorly there are two types of organizations that offer jobs in SEO:
• Online Marketing Agencies / Digital Marketing Companies
• Companies with business models online
Online Marketing Agencies / Digital Media Companies
There are small/medium-sized agencies that take outsourced SEO projects from other countries. These companies (although not having a very good infrastructure) offer great learning opportunities. Not only can you learn SEO tactics but other things like dealing with international client and project management.
usually, have internal SEO team. Apart from this, with the growth of e-commerce in India over the past two years large online shopping companies/portals prefer to have dedicated SEO departments in the marketing team.In my opinion a digital marketing agency is best to start a career in SEO because it gives you a lot of learning opportunities and challenges as you work on several projects at once and understand different SEO strategies for Many niches.
Have you ever joined SEO? What to do to grow in your career
he craziest thing about SEO is it always changes. Google made about 516 changes in its Algorithms in 2010. About two updates per day! Is not it crazy?
While the process of SEO is easy, the process of thinking behind SEO strategizing is continuous and complex. So here are a few things I do all the time to stay up to date and continue to grow.
Reading SEO blogs
Follow the best online marketers and SEO experts on Twitter. Sometimes 160 characters by them make you learn the most.Join the SEO forums. Ask questions and confusion. (The one who asks a question can be a fool for five minutes, the one who does not ask questions remains a madman forever.)
One important thing: Always focus on "ROI (Return on Investment)" task. During the first days of SEO work, you can be assigned submission tasks. Always try to find out why I'm doing this task? How will this task help you in SEO?Participate: Read blogs, leave useful comments, ask questions. Increase your online visibility by building your own blog and sharing your daily learning in SEO or in life. I created http://inlove-withmylife.blogspot.in/ in the early days of my work (about four years back). I had nothing to do with writing at that time. I was just curious to know more about Blogspot!
Getting a domain name and hosting is not very expensive these days. Possess at least one website and experiment a lot with it. Chances are that you do not have access to Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics for your clients' websites. But this can not stop you from learning the basics of these tools. Implement these tools on your own blog or website. Follow the development.
Always remember, SEO is a marketing channel. So try to align the business objectives of a website with your SEO strategy.
Do not make SEO your world. Keep an eye out for events in paid online marketing (especially Google Adwords) and the basics of affiliate marketing.
Last year I also booked domains, just like to experiment with WordPress, understand the basics of affiliate marketing and learn PPC. (One of my websites such is www.nehaagarwal.net where I do a lot of experiments)
Develop your leadership and management skills; Show them that you are a different package from the other SEO group there.
If your background is marketing and advertising ... Pay attention to technical know-how. Learn HTML, read a lot related to IT issues on websites, SEO-Friendly Website Structure etc. If your training is engineering ... Be careful to align the SEO goals with the business objectives of the website, learn more about business metrics, and analysis, etc.
Someone offers me a freelance SEO job. Should I take it?
But I never took on freelance projects in the first two years of work. Because earning extra money has never been my goal. I did not want to be someone doing off page submissions and creating meta tags based on a template for someone else's projects.
I have spent these two years only doing my office duties honestly and reading a lot about online marketing. I used to spend 10-12 hours in my office, doing the tasks of my elder without waiting for something from them in return, took work
initiatives at work.
Aside from that, I used to spend my time understanding the basics of blogs. And once people in your network know and value your SEO skills. They are looking for advice from you. They are even willing to pay for your time. Wow! This is something that everyone would like to do.
I tried to summarize things based on my experience as SEO, feel free to share your ideas in the comments section on anything I missed or about any query you have. I hope this article help technology graduates or MBA Professionals in choosing SEO as a career. Also, I would like to see your comments on this writing. ......
