Cremation was once a taboo among many families around the world. It was viewed as a disrespectful way to send off a dead loved one. However, with the shifting economies as well as weak religious affiliations of many people, cremation has become very widely acceptable. However, most people are at a loss on what to do with the ashes after the cremation process is over.

Cremation has become popular mostly due to the cost implications of burying the deceased. Traditional church funerals are very costly, when compared to cremations. People also equate cremation with “going green”, in that the environment is being saved from the cutting of trees, which are the main material used for caskets. Thus, most environmentally conscious people will go for cremations, as well as others who traditionally have been using cremation as a way of burying their deceased.

What to do with the ashes was often a troublesome decision sometimes back, and even now. The most common way of disposing the ashes is through scattering. People would choose a favorite place where a loved one used to cherish, and have the ashes scattered in the air over the area. Others would have the ashes placed in urns and kept at a special place at home.

There are however, other bizarre ways people have invented on what to do with the cremated ashes. One is the use of the ashes as reef. With this option, the ashes are taken to a place where they are mixed together with cement, which is then poured into the sea as a marine reef. This is often called an eternal reef. You can visit your deceased loved one when you visit the coastal shoes where they are one with water.

Another bizarre option is to use the ashes to make a vinyl record. This record will then be used to store songs that the deceased loved, or that the deceased and family shared and cherished together. There's also the option of using the ashes in a hour glass. There are companies that do this by placing the ashes into a custom made hourglass urn. This hour glass may not necessarily be used for keeping time, but can be passed from one generation to the next.

There's also the option to turn ashes to diamonds. This if often known a diamond burial. There are a few companies that specialize in this. They often take the ashes and turn it into a diamond, which you can either have it custom made into a jewelry piece, or which you can use as a keepsake at home. Whichever way, you still get to be with your loved one whenever you go.

These are just a few of the bizarre ways people use the cremated ashes of their loved ones. Each method will of course come at a price, which may make the traditional method much cheaper. However, whichever way you choose to dispose of the ashes, make sure that it is something that not just you, but also your family will be comfortable with.
