Before buying your new 2016 Honda City, you are likely to have done your research. Not only will you have visited your local showroom to check out the fantastic aesthetics, but you probably read through brochures and reviews before making your final decision. Unfortunately, you could be putting your new Honda with poor washing practices and habits.

Automatic or Hand Washing?

While an automatic car wash may seem like an efficient way to keep your new City looking clean and tidy, it could have the opposite effect. However, if you are tempted to hand wash your car yourself, it is likely that you will use too little water and could risk grime not being properly rinsed from the paintwork, creating an abrasive effect. The key to choosing between automatic car washing or hand washing your vehicle depends on choosing the right service. There are some high quality automatic car washes that offer a fantastic service and will keep your Honda looking like new.

Things to Look For in an Automatic Car Wash:

Before you allow your new pride and joy to be cleaned by a third party, you need to have confidence that ...
... it will it looking fantastic with no scrapes or scuffs on the paintwork. There are several things to look for in an automatic car wash that can reduce the risk of damage and indicate a high standard of service. These include;
Brushless car washes: Some older style car washes still use rollers with abrasive brushes, which are more likely to cause small scratches and scuffs on the paintwork. These car washes were designed to buff out light scratches on single stage painted older cars. However, modern cars are finished with a clear coat layered over the coloured paint which creates that shiny new finish. These older style rollers can damage this clear top coat, causing significant damage. Fortunately, there are newer style brushless automatic car washes that have cloth rollers instead of the old style brushes. These are far gentler on the delicate top paint layer to remove grime without damaging the clear coat.

Diligent Wipe Down Service: Most car washes have a heated air jet after washing to force any excess water from the car body, followed by a hand wipe down. Unfortunately, attendants are not always diligent about ensuring that the cloth they are using is clean. Grime on dirty cloths can have an abrasive effect on your paintwork, like running sandpaper over your car body. If you notice that the same cloths are being used on the cars proceeding you through the car wash, you are better off allowing your car to air dry and risk a couple of streaks. You can always use Honda Cleaner and Polish to remove any streaks when you get home.
