The IELTS or The International English Language Testing System is a standardized English language test conducted by The British Council, Cambridge English Assessment and the IDP Education. This test was established in 1998 to certify the proficiency of the English language for the non-native English speakers.
The PTE or The Pearson Test of English was established in 2009 by Pearson. It is one of the most recent standardized English language tests that have entered the market for testing the language proficiency of the non-native speakers of English. The PTE is accredited by The QCA and administered with Edexcel- one of the largest examining bodies in the United Kingdom.

IELTS Versus PTE- Versions

In the IELTS, the examiner evaluates the speaking abilities of the candidate via a live conversation that is recorded in a device however in the PTE examination there is no conversation and the candidate needs to speak into a microphone for getting the speech recorded in a computerized system. This computer program evaluates this speaking ability and it rates the candidate. The IELTS test is a paper based test and deploys the use of graphs, charts and diagrams. On the other hand, the PTE is a computer based test and the candidate is evaluated accordingly.

But in PTE, there is no live conversation and candidate has to speak to a microphone for getting recorded in a computerized system. On the other hand, PTE is totally computer based and thus uses many innovative techniques to test writing capabilities of the candidate.

IELTS has set time for each paper, and candidates can move forwards and backwards whereas PTE has section timings and can move forward only. The scoring pattern for IELTS is 0 to 9 and is manual in nature. The scoring pattern for PTE is 10-90 and is automated in nature.
