Probably, there is no other extravagant occasion other than witnessing a Hindu wedding ceremony. The wedding ceremony lasts for about few days to few weeks, and the preparations will start well in advance say about 2-3 months before. The entire wedding is a detailed affair, and people spend thousands of rupees on Hindu wedding invites.

In Hindu culture, marriage cards are called as Lagnapatrika which reflects the traditions and cultural values of the Indian society. The Hindu marriage cards are used to announce the wedding ceremony, and the process of sending these cards to guests has become an integral part of the wedding ceremony. In fact, Hindu wedding cards are famous all across the world for their intricate designs, patterns, and colors. The presence of various elements in the wedding invitation makes it appropriate for the gala event and without these cards a wedding event is almost incomplete.

Vital elements of Hindu wedding cards

Listed below are some of the various elements of the Hindu wedding cards –


In Hindu tradition, the marriage cards are marked with haldi before it gets distributed to the guests. Haldi symbolizes purity, auspicious beginning of new life and happiness. Even the bride and groom are adorned with haldi so that they become pure before wedding. Haldi also has medicinal powers as well as spiritual powers.


On Hindu wedding cards, designs like diya, swastika, OM and peacock feather are used for designing them. These motifs have religious meaning and they speak about Hindu culture.

Sindoor and rice

These two are considered highly auspicious in Hindu culture. The Hindu wedding cards are marked with rice and sindoor and then they are offered to God so that they get holy blessings of God. The red color sindoor indicates the beginning of the new religious event and then white color rice indicates peace, purity, and innocence.

Lord Ganesha

In Hindu culture, Lord Ganesha is worshiped first to overcome all sort of hurdles prior starting any auspicious event. Lord Ganesha is a symbol of wealth and education. That’s the reason why the symbol of Lord Ganesha is printed on a wedding card. It is a belief that the Lord makes the wedding occasion a successful one and hurdle free.


Hindu wedding cards are written in English and also in their regional language. The wordings and the content used are pretty much simple to understand. It comprises of details of the event, bride and groom names and parents name as well. Irrespective of the features, the main focus is to invite guests to the event and give their heart full blessings to the new couple.
