Truly A Festival Of Joy That Is The Zenith Of Ramadan
Ramadan 2016, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the holiest of all months for Muslims all over the world.
The first day of the month marks the beginning of 30 days of fasting and abstinence in memory of the revelation of the first verses of the Quran to the Prophet Mohammad.
But, the month is not only about fasting and abstinence from worldly pleasures.
More than Fasting
For the devout Muslim, the period of 30 days has implications far beyond the commonly understood regimen of fasting.
The month calls upon all Muslims to carry out a critical evaluation of their conscience, to seek forgiveness for all their wrongs, to recognise daily, the weakness of their character, to pray to the Almighty for strength to fulfil, in greater measure, their spiritual obligations, to wage a titanic struggle with their inner demons and to emerge victorious with strength and fortitude showered on them by Allah, the Merciful.
Iftar
Every evening at sunset, Muslims are enjoined to break the fast that they have faithfully observed during the hours of daylight.
The breaking ...
... of the fast has, over the years, been transformed into a community event, with family, friends, and relatives congregating to observe iftar by consuming dates and a cup of yogurt.
And every good Muslim makes it a point to invite less privileged members of the Community to participate in the breaking of the fast.
Eid Al Fitr:
Eid al Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shaw’waal, the tenth month, and the month that succeeds that of Ramadan, and is expected to be celebrated this year on July 7, 2016.
The festival is remarkable, because, in contrast to most other festivals around the world, it is not linked to any historical event, or to seasonal cycles, or the harvest from agriculture.
The festival is entirely of spiritual significance when the devout offer gratitude to God the Almighty for blessing them with grace, inner strength, and endurance to fulfil his commandments during the month of Ramadan.
The Night Market:
The Ramadan Night Market in dubai at World Trade Centre will throw open its doors from 8.00 p.m. to 2.00 a.m. from June 23, 2016, to July 2, 2016, every evening.
The Night Market is an unparalleled family event. It is a veritable shopping fiesta with exclusive and carefully selected products from more than 400 exhibitors on offer. Apparel, pendants, and sparklers, home appliances, toys, novelties and curios, colognes and fragrances, the choice is never-ending and embraces within its fold each and every member of the family.
A specially conceived and designed play area will keep the kids entertained for hours on end with its trampoline, nail art, bouncy castle, Play Station, etc. But if you would like your toddler or child to stay at home, you can order for a babysitting service from trusted operators.
Delectable International and exotic local cuisine are a major attraction and so is the Grand Arabic themed Majlis.
For the ladies, henna painting is a special attraction. The Ramadan Night Market makes for a unique experience and a golden opportunity to celebrate the festival of Eid al Fitr and get the ideal gifts for your beloved ones.
Happiness and Festivity
Eid means ‘happiness’ or ‘festivity’. The happiness is centred around the triumph achieved by human observance of God-given commandments. And the happiness is celebrated with prayers - the spiritual dimension, and also with social and humanitarian components.
Brothers meet together in a community union, and joyously embrace each other in mutual thanksgiving for the gift of the grace of the Almighty. And this explosion of love and happiness also manifests itself in a humanitarian spirit that is the very core of the festival.
The Muslims who have completed the observances of the month exhibit their love and concern for all God’s creation especially those who are less fortunate, by the distribution of alms and food.
Three Fold Meaning
Eid al Fitr is a day to offer thanksgiving to the Almighty for the graces granted to remain committed to the path lit by the Quran.
The day is also an opportunity for introspection; a day to reflect and ponder upon the aspects of one’s character that needs to be strengthened with the help of determined self-discipline, fortified by the blessings of the Almighty.
And for those who have succumbed to temptations during the month of Ramadan, it is a time to introspect and resolve to be more faithful to the holy tenets and participate with greater fervour in the observance of Ramadan, and the celebration of Eid al Fitr spiritually, in brotherhood, in community and in solidarity and communion with all of God’s creation.
