Bill Walton Basketball Festival At Petco Park

Crowds packed Petco Park in San Diego for a big game on Sunday, December 6th; however, fans weren’t there for baseball. Instead, they saw USD play SDSU in a men’s basketball game. The game was the finale of the seven-day Bill Walton Basketball Festival, which included high school contests, corporate 3-on-3 play and physical education classes for nearby schools. The event was named for Walton, the former Helix High, UCLA and Portland Trail Blazers star, who played for the then-San Diego Clippers from 1979-84.

Seating Solutions was there to provide seating for this major event where we supplied two units of our Ultimate safety code compliant seating systems. The first system, used for the students, was our fully picket railed Ultimate bench seating system with a 24” tread depth and an improved 9 ½ inch rise per row; standard rise on a bleacher system is only 8”. This system was elevated 2 ½ feet from grade with a front crosswalk and three egress aisles with mid aisle hand rails for added safety incorporating two vomitories in the stand for easy entry and exit.

... spectator experience, was our safety code compliant, fully picket railed, Ultimate blue flip up seating system with a 30” tread depth and a combination of a 6” and 12” rise per row. Our flip up seats are 19 ½ inches wide allowing fans to enjoy the game in comfort. This system was elevated 3 feet from grade and contained an ADA seating platform in the front row with a wheelchair lift on one side and a staircase on the other for entry and exit. This system also contained four aisles and three vomitories within the stand for safe and quick egress. To finish to the look and provide safety for all spectators, black scrim covered the entire understructure on both units from top to bottom.
