Questions To Ask Before Hiring Recycling Services For Your Business
Not all recycling services are made the same. This is why it is extremely important for you to choose the right company for your business waste recycling needs. Below are a few questions you must ask during your search.
Can you handle a specific material my company wishes to dispose of properly? Every business has a specific recycling need. It will depend on your industry. Even if the material you need recycled is not listed on the business waste recycling company, it won't hurt to ask if they have the facility required to recycle it properly. They just might. You might also want to inquire about the costs.
Do you have the right licenses to operate? You might come across a recycling company which offers a variety of recycling services but you should not hire if they cannot provide you with licenses. They should be licensed to collect and recycle the list of materials your business will be disposing of. They should also have a license to operate their business at the site they are located in. If they don't have licenses for these, at the very least, you will suffer from the inconvenience of not having a recycling company ...
... to turn to for a while. At worst, you recycling efforts will be useless, and you might even be tagged as a business that is harmful to the environment.
Are you currently being investigated? Most business waste recycling companies won't be too happy to answer this question. However, they are obliged to answer truthfully when their clients ask them about it. For you own business' protection, you should be wary about recycling companies that are being investigated or charged with breach of environmental laws. Some recycling companies label themselves as environmental saviors, but if they have not mastered their processes yet, they are just as harmful to the environment.
Do you have third party accreditation? It would be a plus if the company handling your business waste recycling needs is accredited by an industry body. This can be an assurance that they are managing their processes well, and that they are truly existent for the good of the environment and not just a big business that is out to get your money.
What happens to the items you recycle? Knowing this bit of information is good because it helps you assess if your choice of company for recycling services is right. If they cannot answer this question, then something is wrong. The materials you send out to be recycled should be used again for something useful. These can be anything from the production of garbage bags to something more exciting like how the materials are being reused as furniture pieces.
Can I inspect your facilities? If you know a little bit about recycling facilities, you might want to check on their facilities to see if the materials are being handled properly. If the items are sorted but you don't really see any "recycling" being done, then it's time to move to another company.
