Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics, Pune, is a department of Symbiosis International University. They were among the first to gather the knowledge of this upcoming field of study and accordingly took steps that led to the inception of SIG in 2004. SIG not only makes the students competent and expert human resource but they make their student pursue the academics effectively. They emphasise their students to gain knowledge of ever growing demand of digitization, GIS development, remote sensing, environmental impact, map analysis, watershed management e-governance, navigation and photogrammetric mapping.

SIG focuses to educate and train in geospatial technologies. SIG gives 100% project cum placement records of its eligible and qualified students. Additionally, it offers variety of courses including M. Sc. Geoinformatics, M. Tech Geoinformatics and Survey Technology, Post Graduate Diploma in Geoinformatics, Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management and Certified courses Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and customized certified courses.

Sc. in Geoinformatics is a dynamic yet interesting course which includes variety of fields to study and collect information to address the problems geography, cartography, geosciences and other related branches of science and engineering.

Suitability of M. Sc. Geoinformatics:

Students who are interested in gaining the knowledge of Geo- informatics in depth and want to solve the real-world problems are best for this program.
Candidates who have a keen interest in, geographical context such as geographical data and information from vivid sources including the use of Remote Sensing, GPS technology etc. are suitable for the course.

M. Sc. Geoinformatics Pattern by the University:

M. Sc. Geoinformatics is divided into 4 semesters and two projects. The degree is conferred under the aegis of Symbiosis International University. These 4 semesters include really interesting topics. In first semester it includes variety on topics that give basic knowledge on every aspect. In second semester it includes two elective courses and in third it includes a summer project with five electives and in last semester it covers the most important aspect of whole of M. Sc. Geoinformatics which is the Industry project.

M. Sc. Geoinformatics not only includes studies and projects it also provides with work shop in Communication skills, Soft skill, Leadership skills, Team building, Decision making, Confidence building and Personality development. SIG trains a student overall for every aspect of life.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduation in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, Science, Agriculture, Management, Geography and Commerce with a Minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST candidates.

Selection Process

Appearing for SNAP is NOT mandatory to apply at SIG. Candidates who applied for SIG will be eligible for Personal Interview (PI). The Personal Interview ,10th Board exam, 12th Board exam, Graduation exam, educational stream, work experience, extracurricular activities, Post Graduation degree/diploma, and written communication skills will carry certain weightage in the selection process.

Scope of M. Sc. Geoinformatics: The post graduate degree aims to develop science graduates in the field of Informatics of the Earth. There is an increase in the application demand of Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing. M.Sc. Geoinformatics open to a lot of job opportunities for the candidates after the completion of two years course. Students are eligible and opt for various courses like: Management, analysis, and presenting spatial and geographic information; Developing spatial and geographical systems and applications in wide variety of organizations.
