Avoid using your landline phones and water for showering and bathing as water acts as a lightning conductor during storms. So it is better that you don’t go close to water as you may get electrocuted.
It is important to protect your electronics from such kind of severe weather conditions. The wiring and phone lines are good lightning conductors of electricity. It may be possible that your homeowner’s insurance may not be able to cover up the damages caused due to lightning. Disconnect your internet router, antennas and satellite dish connections to avoid any damage.
You can reduce the risk of fire by installing lightning rods to protect your entire building. Although they are not 100% efficient in protecting you from lightning strikes. They will still help in protecting you from a major house fire. Lightning rods protect you from fires by transferring the current to the ground. These rods should be fixed at the top of the building for ensuring maximum protection.
Don’t even dare of going near to any object which has been hit by lightning because that is even worse than getting hit by lightning. Also, it is possible that it may have stricken the place twice.
You can also get a lightning system installed in your home by a professional company that takes not just your entire house but also the surrounding structures and landscapes.
Another protective measure for protecting yourself from lightning can be that you avoid talking on your cellphones. That is also another big reason for getting affected during the lightning strikes. According to a survey in lightning protection North West Scotland, 4-5 percent people are struck by lightning when they are talking on their cellphones.

If you are living in North West areas or in Scotland, you should follow the above rules for protecting you and your family from lightning. Just make sure that you have all taken all the above security measures. These will prove to be very helpful.
