How Do Pvc Pipe Manufacturers In Uae Actually Make Their Product?

When PVC pipe manufacturers in UAE talk about the production of PVC, what they are really talking about is the production of PVC resin, which is the substance that forms the foundation for the wide variety of PVC products found all around us. PVC resin can then be formulation into all types of products, most notably pipe systems and pipe fittings such as those provided by Danfoss controls.

There are three main modes of production when we are talking about the production of PVC resin. The first is PVC manufacture by suspension polmerization, the second is emulsion polymerization and the third is bulk polymerization. Since the most popular method of resin production by PVC pipe manufacturers in UAE is suspension polymerization, this method will remain the focus of this article.

Raw materials are required for every kind of manufacture. For the process of PVC polymerization, Vinyl chloride monomer, or VCM, is the the required raw material. VCM actually exists as a gas in normal conditions, which is why it is stored under high pressurized conditioned in order to maintain its liquid state. The methods of PVC production by suspension polymerization are as follows:

1. VCM is fed into a chamber called the polymerization reactor side by side with water and suspending agents. The polymerization reactor moves rapidly, thereby agitating the mixture. These high speed movement cause small droplets of VCM to form, which will ultimately be transformed into PVC.

2. After the droplets have been formed, a catalyst is introduced into the reactor as well. This catalyst is required to be soluble in VCM. The interior of the polymerization reactor is put under high amounts of pressure and the temperature is controlled at between 40 and 60 degrees Celsius. It is as this stage that the initial droplets of VCM are transformed into PVC. These are then introduced and suspended in water, where they appear as distinct and slurry particles. These particles normally range in size from about 50 μm to 200 μm in diameter.

3. Now the manufacturing process of PVC is at its final stage. The slurry particles of PVC that have emerged for the polymerization reactor are collected. Any leftover particles of VCM that have not reacted are removed, along with the water. The most common method of achieving this is through the use of centrifugal force. The slurry solids are then dried. What is left at the end of this process is a white powder or resin, PVC in its purest form. This type of PVC is usually known as S-PVC, which indicates its method of manufacture, aka suspension polymerization.

Some of the advantages of suspension polymerization is that it created a PVC resin that is non toxic, odourless, and non reactive. This makes it ideal for wide utilization in many industries. The process also allows for the minimization of waste, since the left over VCM which failed to react is collected and recycled, which allows it to be used again as raw material.
