They may think that they are unlucky or have many other reasons, but the truth is that there is something that might be holding them back. Their own undermining beliefs might be holding them back and constantly de-motivating them, at times, refraining them from being the confident individual they aspire to see themselves as. However luck is not the reason but their own thoughts and feelings are at play.
Everyone has a choice to recall and focus on the bad feelings or rejoice in the good feelings. Good feelings, joy, appreciation, happiness are our most resourceful natural states and with practice every individual has the power to tap into these positive states. Our negative beliefs and the negative self talk within us constantly pull us away from all the good things. The root cause of this negativity may be in our up-bringing, peer pressure, mental trauma or sometimes just constant exposure to negativity. We can take the example of children who enter school with a very high self esteem, but the level of this self-esteem would have dropped by the time they leave school. This drop in self esteem can be due to the need for appreciation, recognition that most of us have experienced in school. We do not consider ourselves of any value until we receive some recognition from our teachers, peers, parents, community or until we are accepted by a certain group of people.
In our NLP courses for confidence building, we first begin by exploring the person's level of self esteem, the experiences which are the reason for his high or low self esteem. After that we connect these experiences with a certain structure and meaning which can be applied to
rebuilding self esteem.
One of the powerful techniques we apply is to build self-confidence by asking the individuals to recollect all those memories when they were at their confident best or when they outperformed themselves at a task. As they think of one event, another one comes up and then the series follows, they also recollect everything they heard and felt in those situations. Hence our associations or memories have the power to put us in resourceful or un-resourceful states. We can regularly practice being in a state of feeling good as much as we want and then practice will no longer be required, it will be our innate state of being. Many successful personalities have programmed their minds in a similar way. Many performers anchor themselves in these resourceful states before their performances. They may look ordinary before their performances but they take over the minds of their audiences in a manner so fine that they appear like a deity to their fans and audiences. Their positive energy takes over all of their audience.
You too can anchor yourself in positive states like below:
Get excited about the things that you want as already yours.
Powerfully imagine your happier future such that you can feel it in the present moment
Visualize yourself grabbing that fabulous deal, receiving the promotion, or that award or winning that competition
Beginners might face difficulty experiencing these states immediately, for which there are very simple and effective techniques to help you get in that state. You can listen to your favorite music or think about your inspiration, think about all the things that you love. These little techniques can powerfully shift your thoughts and feelings within minutes and then it will be very easy for you to visualize all the amazing things you really want to enjoy. You can try these techniques as many times as you want.
Imagine yourself already living in the house of your dreams. Imagine going on that vacation you really want to enjoy.
The real reason behind low self esteem is the negative programming we often do to ourselves by repeatedly thinking of things that didn't go well, the person who made us feel miserable and a million things which do not serve us in any way besides making us unhappy and adding to our already degrading self-esteem. All you have to do is make it a habit to keep yourself in the positive frame of mind by using the techniques we have discussed above and happiness is yours for today, tomorrow and every day!
