The Digital Revolution, known as the Third Industrial Revolution, is the change from analog, mechanical, and electronic technology to digital which began anywhere from the late 1950s to the late 1970s with the adoption and proliferation of digital computers and digital record keeping, that continues to the present day. Although, there is no universal and authoratative definition of social revolution, it can be termed as a radical qualitative change in the entire socio-economic structure and functions of society.

In my opinion, digital and social revolutions are not mutually exclusive and cannot work in isolation from each other. Fiinovation believes that both are complementary to each other and infact works on each other. Digital processes and connectivity whether the Internet or mobile phones are rapidly bringing market information, financial services, health services to remote areas, and is helping to change peoples' life in unprecedented ways. This can be seen by the impact of ICT has had globally and nationally. The arab spring in which totalitarian regimes and dictators were toppled might not have been possible in the absence of social media which helped people communicate in real time and e xchange information which strengthened the movement.

Fiinovation reviews that Information and Communication technology has roles in the creation of employment and self-employment opportunities. Impacts can be direct, through growth of the ICT sector and ICT-using industries, and indirect through multiplier effects. In economies increasingly dependent on ICT, individuals will benefit by having requisite ICT skills, thereby enhancing their opportunities for employment. The government of India is also giving a push to end this digital divide by its Digital India campaign that includes connecting 2.5 lakh gram panchayats with broadband connection.

Fiinovation believes that benefits accrued so far from the digital revolution is just the tip of the iceberg and it can be deployed further to reduce the inequaltiy in society. There is a wide gap between the people who have access to and benefit from the digital revolution and those who are excluded. Fiinovation believes even the private players will play a crucial role to take this revolution to the next level.
