The winter elements can cause havoc on your vehicle and its engine.  Here are a few tips to assist our drivers to stay safe and ensure your ride is equipped for the winter challenge.

1)  The most important tip is install good quality winter tires, Vancouver does not get too much snow but you don’t want to be stuck without this safety equipment.  You want to remember to install four wheels that are the same and very important to get the proper rated tires.  In order to travel the major highways you must install mountain/snowflake symbol winter wheels.  You can drive with M+S rated tires but you will not achieve the same amount of safety ...
... as a mountain/snowflake tire.  This tire will give you better traction and control in snow, ice or slushy driving conditions.  Also remember the winter driving season starts October 1st.

2)  Perform a maintenance check-up on your vehicle before the winter season begins.  Proactive maintenance is better and cheaper than reactive maintenance.

3) Wiper blades; ensure that you install a new set that is ready to clear the snow and slush from your windshield.

4)  Before you start your daily drive ensure you remove all the snow from your vehicle, defrost all your windows, check your lights, check your gas level and tire pressure, Vancouver can have a lot of traffic and you don’t want to be stuck on the side of the road during the cold winter weather.

5)  In today’s modern technology era we never leave home without our cell phone, so ensure you remember to take it with you and that it is fully charged.  It could save you from being stranded on the side of the road in the bitter cold.

6)  Throughout your driving day you will need to clean your windshield so ensure that you have a full basin of windshield washer fluid.

7)  A survival kit is very crucial in the winter season.  In the kit make sure that you have food, blankets, first-aid supplies, flares or matches, wheel chains, flashlight with extra batteries, battery jumper cables, spare wheel, wrench and jack, additional warm clothing and jackets and sandbags for extra weight and traction.

8) If you are stranded in your vehicle remember stay calm do not panic.  Stay in your car and crack open the window so you are getting fresh air.  Use a candle for heat and set out a flare so people can see you and will stop.

Winter weather can strike at any time be prepared and ready.  Come visit us at Coast 2 Coast Wheels n’ Tires in Langley and we will install the right winter tires, Vancouver drivers need to be safe.
