They can also do private practice, this allows them to provide legal services such as civil and family law, litigation, Conveyancing, validation, personal injury and criminal laws as well.

The crown prosecution service can also be taken up by the solicitors. Here they are to inspect evidences to decide whether to bring cases to court or not.

They may also indulge in in-house legal advising for local authorities, companies and the government.

Though the responsibilities and duties of a solicitor may vary as per the setting they work in, but still there are some common duties that they mostly need to follow, they are:

Instructing clients about all legal matters

Maintaining financial records

Either representing clients in court by themselves, or else instructing advocates or barristers to act on behalf of your clients

Preparation of document for the court

Drafting necessary documents, papers, contracts and letters.

Attending the client meetings and consultations

The core competencies, interests, skills and qualities that a solicitor must have:

Full attention to detail with a proficient level of accuracy

Must be able to explain all legal matters clearly to the non-experts

Strong spoken and written communication skills

Must have respect for strict confidentiality

Power of absorbing and analyzing large amounts of information

Tactfulness and compassion

The ability to work under pressure and manage several cases at a time

Confidence and self-assurance

Convincing ability

The normal working hours of a solicitor-

In general a solicitor in Sudan works around thirty seven hours per week, but sometimes they have to work for longer hours. There are certain jobs that may demand for duties and calls on weekends and bank holidays. The solicitor may also have to attend police stations at any time of the day or night. Occasional visits and meetings also keeps them wrapped up. Criminal lawyers, especially need to spend a lot of time in the court.
