If you are flying well as solo pilot then you can spend those remaining hours in soloing.
If you are thinking why minimum of forty hours then you should know that average flying is for fifty five hours. Forty hours is simply minimum requirement before a student becomes eligible for the Check Ride which is a final exam.

When you fly for two to three times a week then there is very possibility that you might be able to take check ride at 40.2 or 40.4 hours. Practice is extremely important for those who want to fetch license as pilot. Dual flying is further divided into different flying lessons.
