Industries continuously require permanent marking solutions that offer reliable traceability of industrial components. There are several types of permanent marking machines commonly used like- Laser marking systems, scribing and dot-peen systems.

Of these systems, the Dot-peen marking machines are most commonly used in industries. These machines have an electromechanical machine wherein a stylus assembly is made to strike on the surface of the material to be marked. This creates an array of dots that are readable to the human eye. The dots form various designs on the surface like a text, logo, alphanumeric or 2D matrix codes. The machine works at a very fast speed producing the pulses every fraction of a second and thus the entire matrix code is ready within few minutes.

A reliable machine will have provision for constant measurement of the current between successive pulses. This system ensures control over impact consistency. There are following types of dot-pin machines:

1) Column-mounted Dot-peen systems
These systems are individual work stations with independent controller. These systems work along with the production lines as secondary marking processes. Irrespective of the working environment, these systems have proven ruggedness and reliability.

2) Handheld dot-peen markers:
These machines are used when the surfaces to be marked cannot be moved over distances or cannot be mounted on table tops for their marking. The handheld units provide a working environment with a great deal of versatility and maneuverability. The E1 series of hand held units are the latest developments in the system. The E9 and E10 series are equally popular with E10 being upgraded versions of E9 series.

3) Integrated dot-peen marking solutions:
These types of systems are directly integrated into the production lines. There are currently three types of these systems available. They are designed for working environments that require long-term reliability, high marking speeds and compact design.

Characteristics of Dot Peen Marking Machine

1) Can work in flat, concave, convex, or uneven surfaces.
2) The marking can be shallow as well as deep depending on requirement.
3) The marking machines have a robust construction equipment.
4) In some cases, the marks can be still visible after applying a coat of paint.
5) No consumables required, hence affordable
6) The marks produced are highly precise and consistent.
7) The machines are capable of generating up to 5 characters per second.
8) Marking if metals up to 62hrc.
9) The advanced E10 series meets aerospace standards.

The dot-peen technology can be used reliably on any surfaces like plastics and metals of varying thickness making them ideal solutions for industries. Given their robustness, ruggedness and accountability they are widely used in also all industrial applications.
