Most people try to brush their teeth at least two times a day and floss once, but many people all around the world still experience problems with their teeth and need to make a visit to see the Woodland Hills dentist about two times a year. Although you may brush your teeth regularly, there will always be harder to reach areas where plaque will form, and eventually will eat away at your teeth, causing decay or dental caries. This will eventually lead to the formation of cavities. When dental caries or cavities become too severe, the time comes where certain treatments must be performed or else the tooth will need to be extracted.
In order to keep your teeth healthy, you need to do more than simply brush your teeth twice and flossing daily; you still need to make visits to your dentist, as the regular cleaning that you usually get twice a year does a lot to eliminate hard to reach plaque, and with less plaque on your teeth, they will last longer and into your old age. There are many reasons why you should take care of your teeth in your youth, most importantly being that you will still need them to eat when you get old. Especially if you do not take good care of your oral health, your teeth can become extremely sensitive, and eating certain foods can be very painful.
New innovations of the twentieth century introduced new dental techniques and technologies which has made dental health easier to achieve for the average person. With innovations such as porcelain, Novocain, precision cast fillings, water fluoridation, toothpaste, air driven dental tools, lasers, electric toothbrushes, and bleaching kits, maintaining dental health and especially the restoration of teeth became possibilities in the modern time. Before this time, the dental field was not taken as seriously, as the first dental schools were established only in the 1840s. Prior to this, the practice of dentistry was left to barbers.
Among these barbers, there was a guild of better educated and qualified dental surgeons, who could perform complex surgeries, whereas the lay barbers were qualified to perform hygienic services, which included tooth extraction and some basic surgery. Barbers today have little or no affiliation with dentists, and dentists require much training in order to join the profession, including dental school.
Making regular visits to your dentist is crucial in order for you to keep your teeth in the best possible condition. If you wish to keep your natural teeth in your old age, you need to start practicing better dental hygiene and visiting the Woodland Hills dentist for regular check up and cleaning.
