Many individuals suffering from symptoms of cardiovascular disease shrug such symptoms off as something that is not serious. Why? Not all symptoms of heart trouble are obvious or intense, and they may vary from one person to another. It is thus important that you have an idea of the symptoms of heart problem so you will know when to seek medical help while you still could.

The paragraphs below will highlight several symptoms of a heart problem that you should never ignore.

1. Persistent coughing

You may think that persistent wheezing or coughing only indicates that you have a respiratory problem, but medical professionals warn that it can be more than that. Those who cough up blood may have an underlying cardiovascular trouble—heart failure.

2. Frequent chest discomforts

Most of us, at one time or another, may have experienced heartburn. Such experience may be due to a minor digestive trouble. It is a different case, however if such chest discomforts increase in frequency. Cardiac chest pains may range from mild pressure to intense pain. You will know if the chest pain is due to a heart problem because you will feel the pain or pressure underneath your left breastbone and near the center of your chest. Those who have experienced such chest pains describe the feeling as that of an elephant sitting on their chests. Some women report cases when they felt a burning sensation instead of pain or pressure in their chest. Such cases are also symptoms of underlying heart problems.

3. Dizziness

Going through a heart attack may leave you feeling dizzy. In severe cases, heart attacks may leave you unconscious. In such instances, dizziness may indicate that you have arrhythmia, a heart problem due to abnormalities in your heart rhythm.

4. Irregular or rapid pulse

Doctors say that a skipped heartbeat is not often dangerous. However, if irregular or rapid heartbeat comes with other symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, and weakness, you may be suffering from a heart attack. An irregular or rapid pulse may also indicate that you have arrhythmia or heart failure. Make sure that you do not ignore such manifestation as untreated arrhythmia cases often lead to heart failure, stroke, and even death.

5. Shortness of breath

It is normal for you to feel out of breath after engaging in a particularly strenuous physical activity. However, if you feel as though you have run a hundred miles when you have barely even moved from where you are, then you might be experiencing a symptom of a heart attack. Some cases may also come with chest discomfort. However, you can feel short of breath without such discomforts.
