Nowadays, an increasing number of famous personalities are endorsing a gluten-free diet for better health. Also, you need to make sure of their claims that a gluten-free diet is healthier than a regular diet.

What it Means to Go Gluten-Free?

To go gluten-free means to forgo all types of food that contain the substance gluten. Gluten refers to a certain kind of protein that we can find in whole grains such as wheat. Bakers use gluten for baking since this protein gives the dough a sort of elasticity. Some makeup products also contain this ingredient, as well as some dermatological preparations.

According to those who support this stand, gluten makes it difficult for your body to digest, contributing to stomach discomfort. In fact, such experts hold that intake of gluten can lead to mental stress and contribute to mental fog and mood swings. They further believe that going gluten-free helps one to lose weight fast, citing examples such as Phantom of the Opera singer Emily Rossum and the comedian Jenny McCarthy, who embody the gluten-free diet.

On the other hand, there are some scientists who insist that going gluten-free to address weight problems is unnecessary and a waste of time and energy. Such a claim has its roots in several experiments that showed that there is no connection between weight loss and avoidance of gluten. Furthermore, experts who do not support gluten-free diets for those who are not allergic to gluten say that avoiding gluten would mean avoiding a lot of nutritious food. Remember that if you want to avoid gluten, you would have to avoid food such as rye, barley, and oats. While you may discipline yourself to avoid all the foods that you may be familiar with, nutritional experts warn against the likelihood that you would experience nutritional deficiencies.

Living a Gluten-Free Life

If, after much thought and consideration, you have decided to go gluten-free, then it is time for you to be very careful about the products that you buy. Some products have labels that indicate whether or not they are gluten-free.

If you want to try going gluten-free first, you can check out some gluten-free recipes online and try making them yourself to see if you will survive the diet.

No matter what diet you may choose in the end, remember that what matters most is not your waistline but your health.
