Nestled within the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayan Mountain Range, Bhutan is steeped in legend and shrouded in mystery. It’s only recently that the country has opened its doors to tourists and travellers, and much is still to be learnt about this ‘Land of the Thunder Dragon’.
Home to a number of monasteries, each with fabulous myths attached to them, Bhutan packages promise to be some of the most fascinating and enlightening trips you’ll ever take. Some of the more enthralling tales you will hear in Bhutan include:

The Legend of Guru Rinpoche and the Rosary Beads:

Guru Rincpocheis also known as Padmasambhava, which literally means ‘lotus-born’. There are a number of stories that paint him as a mythical hero. One tale tells of a demon that tried to shatter Guru Rinpoche’s rosary beads. But, no matter how hard the demon tried, the rosary beads always reunited again.Since no bead was lost, Guru Rinpoche defeated the demon, who wept in frustration and disappeared forever. Statues of Guru Rinpoche can be found in several monasteries all over the country. These holy sites, some of which are famous across the globe, are not only popular tourist attractions that you must visit during your Bhutan packages, but hold within them even more stories of the valour and wisdom of the legendary Guru Rinpoche.

The Legend of ParoTaktsang:

ParoTaktsang is the colloquial name for the TaktsangPalphug Monastery. This is one of the most sacred monasteries in Bhutan and is also commonly referred to as Tiger’s Nest. Clinging to a sheer cliff face 900 metres from the ground in Paro Valley, it is one of the most famous monasteries in the country. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew to this monastery on a winged tigress’ back, giving it its name. To reach the monastery, one needs to ascend a stepped pathway built along the mountainside and then embark on a short trek to the top. The climb is well worth it though; the panoramic view of the Paro Valley from the Tiger’s Nest monastery is breathtakingly beautiful. With the fascinating legend surrounding it, the journey to ParoTaktsang is a riveting one to travellers and a deeply spiritual one to pilgrims.
