B1 English test is a recognized Trinity College London International ESOL Examination and is regulated by OFQUAL. Grade 5 at B1 on the CEFR and ESOL Entry level 3 is approved by the Home Office for Settlement/ILR and Naturalization applications made after 28th October 2013. This exam has is divided into 2 phases with 5minutes of duration for each. The first phase is known as the discussion of a planned topic. It gives the candidates the chance to show their level of the language competency as they talk about self-chosen and personal topics. It is preferred that when choosing the topic for discussion, the candidates have the discretion to select the topic on a subject they are personally interested in, aware about and should possess the expertise so that they are able to discuss with the examiner for up to 5 minutes.



The examinees are required to fill up a 'Topic form before their examination which is actually presented to the examiner. The whole purpose of this is to aware the examiner so that he/she can use the information on the Topic form to help initiate and formulate a discussion about the chosen ...
... topic areas. It is so designed so as to encourage free flowing discussion. Also the students may not just try to memorise what they are planning to say. In the Topic phase the candidates are to give information about the prepared topic in a series of linked long turns about the five discussion points on the Topic form, They basically respond to the questions on the prepared topic, and participate in an informal discussion of the topic, during which the examiner may harness more information, facts or details relevant to the topic.



The next phase which is the Conversation phase the candidate may speak on two subject areas for up to 5 minutes duration. This part has an interesting aspect and gives the candidates a chance to have a real and interesting exchange of ideas, information and opinions& at the same time showing their ability to use the language comfortably of the grade. It selects two of the subject areas for discussion listed in the grade like Means of transport, Special occasions, Entertainment, Festivals, Music, Recent personal experiences. Though the examiner will only select two of the subject areas as listed above, but the candidates need a thorough preparation to be able to speak about all of them.



The registered B1 test centres are there in across the 15 UK cities namely Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Peterborough, Preston & Sheffield. The fee for the exam is 145 pounds and this covers registration, exam and certificate, which is sent by 1st class post. The applicants who wish to apply for Naturalization/settlement/ILR are required to pass the Life in the UK Test & should have a speaking and Listening Qualification at B1 CEFR. B1 English test is a level of English characterized by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is a vital level as it helps to overcome any barrier in the middle of straightforward and complex dialect utilization. The CEFR says that learners at B1 level should be able to comprehend the fundamental purposes of clear standard input on well known or general matters regularly experienced in work, school, recreation, etc.
