Apps To Help Pack For Vacation

As valuable as cheap travel options, such as cheap fares, cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, cheap auto rentals, discount travel deals, and cheap vacation packages are, it would be nice if you could manage to pack what you will use during your next vacation without packing more than you really need. Now there are apps to help you do this.

Among the most uncomplicated yet effective packing apps is Travel List for $1.99. This app comes with an option to set an auto reminder that will alert you as you leave the location where you have been packing but have not yet finished. It also comes with an option to set alarms for specific items you plan to pack. This comes in handy if you are leaving for a flight at 9 am but do not want to pack your phone charger until the last minute. You are able to set a reminder to go off at 8:55 am.

To create a new trip, users select a name (usually associated with their destination) and then tap the “start packing” link. You can add items to your list, select from categories such as clothing, gadgets, and makeup. These fixed categories help some who tend to find packing overwhelming. Non-relevant categories can be hidden as well as specific items.

Users have the ability to select their own items instead of using a menu by scrolling to the bottom of each category and choosing to add new item and then typing in that item.

This app is easy to read and your list can be shared by printing or emailing it.

The Packing Pro, sells for $2.99, and is a more complete packing app that comes with various options: customizing colors and icons, sorting packing lists, importing and exporting them. While this app requires a little patience while getting familiar with it, if you are traveling for business or if you are packing for several people, you might find this app very useful.

Packing Pro allows the user to create a master packing list that can then be sorted by each member of the family. You can add anyone using any name. You can also create a packing list for a childless couple. The easiest way to build any of these lists is by using a “sample list” that will vary depending on whether you are traveling for pleasure, business, and individuals who want to travel “light” or even “super light.”

This app comes with extensive packing categories. “Medical/health” suggests packing sunscreen, antifungal cream, and condoms. Unlike similar apps, this one not only comes with a pre-trip to do list, but also one for mid trip (buy local SIM card, confirm air ticket) and post trip (recharge digital camera, reset phone message).

TripList is a free packing app that allows users to select categories of things to pack such as clothing, documents, and electronics from an items catalog. Inside the items catalog is a “tasks” category where users can add items like “charge batteries,” download music,” “check-in online” and “security (set light timers).”

Users who add their own items to a list can keep that list in the app to use again for future trips. Users can set a packing reminder for a day before any departure. The “pro” ad free version of this app costs $2.99 and allows users to sync their lists across multiple devices, create separate packing lists for everyone going on their trip, and link it to TripIt, an itinerary travel app.

Stylebook costs $3.99 and is an app for fashion forward travelers. This app calculates the clothes you wear most and least, the total value of your closet, and the colors found inside. Packing lists are offered which are divided into categories such as tops, bottoms, shoes, bags, as well as types of looks (work, evening, formal, vacation). This app comes with a “looks” section which allows users to group their clothes and accessories into outfits, creating combinations that save luggage space while making the user look great.
