The Hygienic Benefits Of Hand Dryers

Long gone are the days of using towels to dry hands. Hand dryers are now prevalent in all commercial buildings. With hygiene now high up the list of priorities in places like shopping malls, offices, hotels, restaurants etc, hand dryers are one of the most popular ways of ensuring the spread of germs is minimised. Use of soaps has been replaced by liquid soaps – some of which themselves have sensors, which further eliminate the need for physical contact.

It’s fair to say that most of us want to lead a clean, hygienic existence. The media is constantly making us aware of the next “superbug”, and this most often makes headlines when issues arise in hospitals. To combat this bad press, they have “soap stations” in all wards. However, they do still have paper hand towels available, which, while not the best method, they do have clinical waste bins in which to put them. The one positive, is that the media has reported on this and other such stories with such regularity, that we are at least, more conscious of the importance of keeping our hands clean.

There are various types of hand dryers available, all of which can be easily found online. We can classify hand dryers into two categories; manual and automatic.

Some hand drying units have a timer system, although these are slowly being phased out with the introduction of more high tech dryers, which have a more accurate sensor, and can determine when hands are placed, and withdrawn, underneath.

The heating element is usually made of a combination of nickel and chromium, which heats the around it. This warmed air flows down a tube, directing it straight on to the user’s hands. By contrast, the more recent versions use a higher pressure, eliminating the need for heat, yet still proving more efficient. The other, more obvious benefit here, is that the high pressure automatic sensor models, save significantly on electricity. The lack of direct contact means there is no scope for germs to spread. At Sunny Electrical, a leading UK electrical supplies store, we offer three models of the renowned Redring brand of automatic hand dryers, among others.

Our dryers offer the aforementioned environmental, financial and sanitary benefits, and we have a selection that is diverse. In addition, we also have a wide range of electric water heaters, LED downlights, CCTV door entry systems, weatherproof double sockets, and much more. Visit us online today!
