Since crane mats are used commonly in the construction industry, it’s easy to see why companies are always looking for crane mats for sale. A large percentage of crane mats are made from timber.

It’s important that they’re made from hardwood timbers because they must be able to support a lot of weight. The primary purpose of crane mats is to move and support very heavy equipment. When the ground is unstable, crane mats are needed for stabilization.

It’s almost impossible to move heavy machinery across an unstable surface. The crane is the main piece of heavy equipment that crane mats are used for, but the mats can support several other types of heavy machinery.

The mats make it possible to move heavy equipment into areas that it wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. For example, crane mats are frequently used in marshes and swampy areas. In some cases, the mats make it possible to build a bridge around a stream or river.

The Importance of Cranes

A crane is a very important piece of machinery, and it’s used to clean environmental areas and build massive pipelines. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible for cranes to navigate certain types of terrain, and in these situations, crane mats are essential.

Cranes are also used to repair roadways and bridges. The process begins with constructions workers planning the path that the crane must take.

Once the path is determined, crane mats are ordered and used to build the path. By laying the mats in a row, a large crane is able to navigate across the mats. This makes it possible for the crane to reach all of the positions it needs to reach to finish the job.

Why Use Composite Crane Mats?

It’s important to understand that there are different types of crane mats. Some are made out of hardwood timber while others are made from composite materials. There are several advantages of using composite mats.

One of the greatest benefits is that composite crane mats are much stronger than hardwood mats. They have a much higher compression strength, which means they’re less likely to compress under load. In fact, a composite mat has almost twice the compression strength as a timber mat of double the size.

It’s also much cheaper to transport composite crane mats. A typical truckload of composite mats can cover twice the area of a truckload of timber crane mats. Studies show that composite material is much more durable than timber.

Composite materials don’t have the same vulnerabilities that timber mats have. The average lifespan of a composite mat is greater than the lifespan of a mat made from timber. Since composite mats are made from recycled materials, they’re easier on the environment than hardwood crane mats. For more information visit: http://www.spartanmat.com/
