Hyundai To Give Hybrids A Spin
While hybrid cars are nothing new to the auto industry, many companies are capitalizing on the success of the hybrid moniker. For years now, companies have converted existing vehicles in their line-up into a hybrid version of the same car. These vehicles are very popular with car buyers and give the brand a greener image. Nearly every automaker has at least one hybrid vehicle in their lineup. In the last few years Hyundai has released various hybrid versions of their most popular car, including the 2015 Hyundai Sonata and have flirted with the idea of releasing a hybrid version of the Santa Fe SUV.
While these cars are a fantastic and affordable way to capitalize on the hybrid name, the vehicles have not performed as efficiently as vehicles which were designed to exclusively be hybrids. Many auto makers use existing models as a platform to convert into hybrid vehicles. This is a very cost effective approach that limits risk while giving the consumer a hybrid option with a familiar look and feel. This is why Hyundai has chosen to design a line of purely hybrid vehicles.
Hyundai is taking ...
... a cue from what Toyota has done with the very popular Prius family of vehicles. By creating their own family of hybrid only vehicles, Hyundai plans to directly compete with Toyota in a category that has yet to be explored by many auto makers. The Hyundai hybrids are in development now and should be available for purchase within the next few years. This marks a movement within the auto industry towards more fuel efficient vehicles. Consumers have been looking for more fuel efficient vehicles for years now and automakers are beginning to answer the call.
This will not mark the end of the more affordable hybrid versions of popular models within the lineup. Hyundai has already announced a complete redesign for the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid model. This new redesign, as well as the continuation of the hybrid version of the Sonata, demonstrates Hyundai's willingness to continue to push a hybrid option through their flagship vehicle. Sources on the new hybrid family of vehicles have indicated that it is likely that these vehicles will offer a plug-in option for charging the vehicle; this option was shown in 2010 when Hyundai showed off their Blue-Will concept car. These cars could also be coming very soon, real-world photos have already been taken of these hybrid concept cars, which would indicate that they are likely to be in production within a year or two.
Hyundai is on the cutting edge of hybrid technology and will give Toyota a real run for their money in the hybrid vehicle industry. Hybrid cars are not just a running fad, these vehicles will continue to grow in popularity and more automakers will fill out their model lineups with hybrid families of vehicles. Look for more news on Hyundai hybrids being announced in the coming months. With an eye to the future Hyundai is pushing forward and giving consumers a number of new options when it comes to purchasing a more fuel efficient vehicle.
