Prior to bringing the employees on board organisations have made it a point to conduct background check on each one of them. Background verification is one such pillar in the organisation that alerts the organisation about any sort of irregularities, which was there in the past of the candidate. An employee is welcomed and confirmed for the job profile hired for only when a thorough pre- employment check is carried out. This practice ensures the appointment of an employee who is honest and free from any vice, be it personal or professional.

Over the course of an employee's tenure, no organisation ever feels the need to know about the current background. Once verified, an employee is never re- verified. Knowing about the employee in periodic intervals holds equal importance as it does at the initial stage of employee hiring. Organisations should always stay apprised about the background of an existing employee.

With incidents of employees being involved in fraudulent practices becoming common, it is always best to stay abreast with the current happenings. An employee can change his place of accommodation and the organisation may face difficulty in case of reaching out to that employee or his family members at times of an emergency. It is also likely to happen that an employee may disappear with sensitive information. This scenario urges an organisation to re- verify the address. A possible change in address also calls for a criminal record check at the last address where the employee stayed.

Similarly, employees can upgrade their education by getting an additional degree or diploma which may make them eligible for promotions that calls the necessity of re-verification. Moreover, in case the new degrees are found to be clashing against the employees current work profile, employer may count this as a deception. An employee should therefore always keep the employers informed on the new updates pertaining to education. In addition to that, an employee can inculcate a bad habit such as drug abuse over the period of tenure which will act against the interest of the organisation.

Thus, in order to shield the organisation against any threat in the course of its journey, the employees should be subjected to a dose of periodic background screening, which is an extension to the essential practice of employee background screening. There are third party background verification companies who conduct periodic background check which aid in mitigating the risks associated with uncertainty.
