How To Appear For The Pe Exam
Appearing for the PE exams and clearing it may be one of the life changing aspects of your professional career. You would have cleared your FE exam, taken some training under a professional, and also would have attended some preparatory courses. But all your effort will be wasted if you do not appear well equipped for your exam. Let us look at few points to remember while appearing for your PE exams.
You should have a printed copy of your exam authorization. This will prevent delays in entering the exam hall.
You should have a valid, government issued ID card to appear in the exam. Your date of birth, name, your photo, your signature, and an expiry date must be present on the ID card.
Have a copy of the International Building Code. For the October 2014 PE exams you need to use a copy of the 2009 International Building Code. Some states use the 2009, 2006, or 2003 International Building codes while the remaining 23 states have adopted the 2012 International Building Code.
You need to use a timer for the exam. You will roughly have around 6 minutes to solve each question. This six minutes will be just ...
... enough for you to read the question, understand the question, refer notes, get a solution for the problem, and mark the answer sheet. Sometimes you may take more than six minutes for a question. In such situations, you can use the timer to adjust the speed at which you answer questions. You cannot take cell phones or smartphones in the exam hall for time keeping. So carry a timer for the Professional Engineer Exam.
Carry a valid and approved calculator with you. The models that can be used are all CASIO FX -115 models, Hewlett Packard models HP 35S and HP 33S. You can also use Texas Instruments models TI- 30X and TI-36X.
Don’t carry too much study material with you as a resource. You may not have the time to go through all your resources while writing your exam. However, if you need some important pictures, graphs, charts and other books, then you can carry it along with you. It is better to put everything in a binder instead of having loose sheets. Carry all the important documents given to you during the professional engineer exam prep.
Instead of searching all your notes for answers you can carry a solved problem for each of the topics of the exam you are appearing. The solved problem will have all the steps in a proper order. You can apply the same steps to solve the problem that appears in your exam.
Carry snacks with less noisy wrappers as there should not be much noise while opening the snack. Similarly, carry water in a safe water bottle.
If you remember the points given, then you can come out in flying colours in your Professional Engineering Exam.
