Search engines are extremely important to everyone, not just newbie marketers or people coming online for the first time.

So it's important to identify the top search engines that will provide you a few key factors:

1. You need relevant results that you are actually interested in.
2. There needs to be an easy to use interface with minimal clutter.
3. You also need additional options to broaden your search criterias.

With this kind of criteria, we have narrowed down the top 10 best search engines for 2014.

These search engines will meet 99% of all your searching needs and will most likely be the best search engines you will find online.

Google:

Google without a doubt has been the “go to” search engine of choice for many people.

Google will quickly find relevant web pages that relate to your search terms and is very fast.

Google’s interface makes it very easy to use and also has great services like locating photos, geographic directions, new headlines and more.

What also makes Google unique from any other search engine is the filtered and unfiltered ...
... results you receive based on who you interact with on the Google+ social media network.

Bing:

Bing, very similar to Google is the attempt of Microsoft to try to “beat” Google.

Formerly MSN search, it was updated in summer of 2009 as a “decision engine”.

When searching with Bing, you will notice that Bing supports your searches by suggesting things in the leftmost column, but also giving you various search options across the top of the screen.

Ask:

Ask, aka “Ask Jeeves” is also a very popular search engine. Their super-clean interface rivals the major search engines such as Google or Bing.

Another notable fact about Ask is that the results groupings are what really make Ask stand out from the rest.

The results groupings seem to be more relevant and more easier to read than Google, Yahoo! or Bing.

Yahoo!:

Yahoo! another well known search engine is actually more than just a search engine itself.

It’s a new aggregator, a shopping center an emailbox, a travel directory, a horoscope, games center and more.

Yahoo! delivers some great searches with great discovery and exploration and is very helpful for Internet beginners.

Dogpile:

Dogpile was once the fast and efficient choice before Google was introduced.

As newer technology was introduced, Dogpile began to fade into the background while Google become king.

However, Dogpile is currently making a come back with a growing index and great interface.

DuckDuckGo:

DuckDuckGo is a very different search engine, however at first glance, in comparison to Google, it's similar.

DuckDuckGo has some very cool features like “zero-click” information. In essence, all of your results are found on the first page.

As if this feature wasn’t neat enough, DuckDuckGo also helps to clarify what questions you are really asking and the advertisements you see are much less than Google.

Clusty:

Clusty is a great looking deep web engine that searches other search engines for you automatically.

Deep web pages are not actually indexed by robot spider programs so they are usually harder to locate by conventional search.

Clusty is very useful in searching for obscure, tough-to-find information.

Webopedia:

Wepodeia is one of the most informative search engines on the Internet.

It’s an encyclopedic resource that is dedicated to searching different technological terminology and computer definitions.

If you are a non-techie person, Webopedia is the perfect resource to help you make more sense of different technologies.

The Internet Archive:

The Internet Archive is yet another great resource and loved by many people.

This search engine offers a variety of visually-based searches, which includes a way back machine on what a website previously looked like when it was first introduced online.

While you probably won’t use this as much as Google, Yahoo! or Bing, it’s a great place to go in case you want to view things that have happened in the past.

Mahalo:

Mahalo employs a committee of editors that manually sift and verify thousands of pieces of content.

Yes, that’s correct, this is no “automated" search engine, it’s probably the only “human-powered” search engine on the Internet.

This also means you will receive fewer search results than you would get at other major search engines.

However, the results you receive will have higher quality content and relevance.

Final Thought:

Search engines have become a very important resource that many people use on a daily basis. While most people tend to use just one search engine in particular, it's a great way to break into different search areas beacuse not every search engine will offer the exact same results.
