Msc Physics – Room To Maneuver

Master of Science is a degree that is awarded to a post graduate by many universities in many universities in many countries. In short the degree is represented as MSc, MSci, or MSi in each country. This degree is awarded to those students who had finished their post-graduation in sciences or engineering or medicine. There are many courses offered in different fields like MSc Zoology, MSc Biotechnology and MSc Physics etc. These courses help the student in mastering a particular course. One such prominent program that has huge craze among all the students all over the world is MSc Physics. It is a degree that is honored to those students who mastered the course in the field of physics.

The course structure is well organized with lectures, laboratory work, exams and course work each year. The duration of the course varies in each country. The students who take up the course have to finish the bachelor’s degree in physics. In general the master’s degree is taken up in four years where the final year mostly comprises of project work exposing the student to real time environment and practical constraints. For the student to qualify into the final year he or she has to possess a minimum academic percentage in all the three years. The final degrees the students receive is classified into four categories

• Distinction
• Merit
• Pass and
• Fail

India is a country where there is a huge competition is established between the students to get a seat for this course. The power houses of Indian education called IIT’s also offer this course and there is a huge competition for these seats. To increase the quality of education and the admission process these IIT’s conduct a common entrance test called Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM). These institutes not only offer a simple master’s program but also a dual degree for PhD along with Masters.

The course concentrates specially on Mathematical methods, Classical Methods, Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Nuclear Physics, Relativity and Cosmology, Atomic Spectroscopy, Solid State Physics, Computer Applications in Physics etc. An exam on two general practical papers is also conducted per each semester. The internal assessment is also done in the form of mid semesters where certain marks are awarded based on the student’s performance. In the final year semester the student have to report on his project or term paper and has to participate in the viva voice to successfully finish the course.
