Data Loss Prevention Software Key To Consumers’ Peace Of Mind
With Cyber attacks on the rise and faith in online security declining fast, many consumers and the professionals who serve their needs in retail, social media, and online buying sites have good reason for concern: In the year 2013 alone, the records of some 800 million consumers were compromised, as verified by ABI Research Cybersecurity Technologies. That leaves consumers with a big lack of confidence, and it also opens up new opportunities for those who are looking to build avenues to solve such problems.
Unfortunately, the stories are anything but rare. Among the big names who have recently suffered such informational breaches are those most trusted by the masses: eBay, AT&T, and Target as online sellers, and social media and internet powerhouses including Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn to name just a few. These known and trusted brands seem to be reported daily as enduring problems created by malware, POS attacks, and credit card number theft, as well as security breaches off-line where personal information has seemingly been given up all too easily… and consumers are beginning to wonder ...
... why—and what’s being done to stop the disturbing trend.
While companies who suffer such hardships may feel a heavy financial impact based on loss of revenue, compromised brand loyalty, and degradation of reputation, it seems that the most informed business owners are looking to technology to help them turn the tides of such public relations nightmares into even better PR opportunities through the use of Data Loss Prevention Software systems. Basically, it’s the good guys coming to the rescue of the masses to ward off the advances of those who would do evil to the world with technology.
These new data loss prevention software systems are designed to protect networked databases, applications, servers, and devices and thus to help prevent and cure problems associated with any losses and to comply with security regulations on the whole, all the while protecting the privacy and information of those all-important consumer bases who are demanding answers about security from the companies with which they do business. Currently, companies like Trend Micro, Symantec, McAfee, Websense, and RSA are setting standards in data protection.
Monolina Sen, ABI’s Senior Cybersecurity Analyst warns that proper implementation is imperative, but is optimistic that Data Loss Prevention Software can save headaches and heartaches for many victims of cybertheft, “DLP solutions can mitigate data loss risks, comply with government regulations, and protect customer privacy.” It’s a hefty promise, and millions of victims are praying that Sen and analysts can deliver—and they are. The attempts of ABI and similar companies seem to be working and worries are beginning to ease for those who share their lives on consumer habits online. Says one media savvy Gen X’er, “I enjoy shopping online, and I love sharing my life with friends on Facebook, but I feel better knowing there’s an added layer of security when I’m trusting my money and privacy to the brands I choose online.”
According to ABI Research-- an organization known for high quality research analysis, gathering of market data, insight provision, and competitive assessments-- the market for Data Loss Prevention alternatives will reach $1.7 million by December of this year. More and more companies are realizing the importance of such technology and are ready to invest in securing their clients’ online information.
