Skin Imperfections and Photo Ageing
We are constantly exposed to lots of stressful stimuli and damaging influences. These take a toll on our skin. These agents are such that they are very difficult for us to avoid. These influences include but are not limited to exposure to UV rays from Sun, environmental pollutants etc. Also there other factors that are in play constantly which make us vulnerable to certain skin conditions. These include genetic Makeup, gravity of earth and natural aging process of the person. These makes our skin over time to become loose, furrowed and creepy. Also theses causes wrinkling of face especially around cheeks, eyes and mouth, open pores and fine lines. Along with UV rays, Smoking also leads to development of ageing signs, these in turn leads to Advanced Photo aging of the skin. This Photo Ageing leads to laxity of skin, Wrinkling of skin, Hyper pigmentation of Skin, and its sallowing.
The Fractional CO2 Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing Rejuvenation Treatment (Ablative Cosmetic Laser Therapy):
This laser is one of the earlier lasers to be developed for therapeutic use, still it is one of the most useful one. It is one of the best lasers for Photo-rejuvenation therapy for skin. In Photo- Rejuvenation treatment beam of light is used to treat Stretch marks, Wrinkles and fine lines, Stretch marks, skin striae, open pores etc. It is also one of the best laser acne scar removal treatment in India especially.
In this treatment procedure there are controlled wounds that are produced on the skin by this laser. This prompts healing of the skin. This in turn stimulates healing and reversal of the effect of photo-ageing, making skin more even and removes the acne scars, skin irregularities, wrinkles and fine lines, thereby producing youthful and gorgeous skin.
With Carbon Dioxide (CO2) laser short concentrated beams of pulsating light is directed at the skin. This leads to removal of the layer of the skin, layer by layer in a precise manner. This process is called Lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization. During this laser resurfacing process, there is dissocitation of the molecular bonds of the skin cells. The controlled wounds that are produced during the therapy stimulates the skin to start a process of self-healing. This in turn leads to production of collagen in at the treated sites. Collagen is one of the basic blocks of the skin and its function is to maintain firmness ans suppleness of the skin. With this there is also peeling of the upper layer of the skin which leads to revealing of the newer layer underneath.
Carbon Dioxide laser is used for many types of treatments example sun damage, sloar lentigenes (Lentigo Maligna), Stretch marks, Open Pores, Acne and othe scars, Spider Veins (telengiectasis) and actinic keratosis. The Fractional Carbonm Dioxide Laser can be used safely for skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing treatment and is the gold standard for all treatments given its revolutionary success in its application.
Carbon Dioxide Cosmetic Laser Therapy for Acne Scars in an Indian patient Video (Laser by Dr. Rinky Kapoor):
Treatment in Indian & Pigmented Skin with Carbon Dioxide (CO2) (South American, East Asian, South Asian skin types):
Initially it was believed that abrasive and ablative laser surgeries with lasers such as CO2 were considered risky to be used in skin type which is pigmented (Skin Types Fitzpatrick IV through VI). These are the skin types which includes South American and South Asian skin types(Including Indians). It was considered unfit as the thought was that ablative lasers ma cause hyperpigmentation in pigmented skin types as the laser tend to reach the deeper layers of the epidermis. However the author of this article has now treated more than 4000 Indian patients with this technology and has got amazing results. This highlights the fact that the tick for successful treatment lies in the expertise of the Doctor and not in the laser.
When a patient undergoes CO2 laser treatment he/she will be able to see the results in about 1 to 6 sessions. The patient will notice that his/her skin has become more even and the acne scar have almost vanished, pores have closed, stretch marks and striae have reduced, wrinkles and fine lines gone, leaving behind a younger and smoother looking skin.
There are other lasers treatments available that uses Non- Ablative lasers. These lasers do not cause skin wounding and try and stimulate collagen formation, but it is found that these lasers are not very effective and do not produce consistent results. In case of fractional CO2 Lasers the results are better consistent and the recuperation time is as low as one week which patients can tolerate easily, making it a better option for the skin treatment.
So to sum up we can safely say that, fractional Carbon Dioxide laser treatment is very efficacious and safe treatment modality. It is one of the best available therapy for acne scar marks, skin whitening, skin lightening, Wrinkles, open pores, stretch marks, skin rejuvenation etc. leaving behind a gorgeous smooth and youthful looking skin on arms, face, back , legs and neck. This therapy has minimal side effects and is very cost effective. About USD 400 for a session of CO2 laser resurfacing treatment for the whole face. The best part of this treatment is that it can safely be used along with other treatment modalities like Botox, Dermarollers, Dermal fillers, and other skin care treatments.
