Before you consider a college far from home,there are lots of things you should consider, although it may appear like a great opportunity to obtain far away from home and "meddling" parents. If you live in the city, a rural college might appear appealing ? but you might miss these city lights quicker than you believe. Think about climate changes as well ? will you cope with snow, rain or heat that you are not utilized to? There might be times when you want your family members to be closer instead of farther away, even though you will not admit it now.
A large college might provide a wider range of majors and more activities, but if you prefer smaller classes and more personal interest, then a smaller sized college might be much better for you. Also, look at the student physique and its gender composition and diversity, where will you match in better?
What are the available dorms, apartments, or other housing facilities? Are they old-school or new-age? Does it have a communal or private bathroom, will you have roommates? Even though sharing facilities may be regarded as part of the college experience, it does not appeal to everyone.
What is the college's reputation in terms of price of graduation and achievement? What type of pressure can you expect in proportion to your outcomes? Does the college frequently place students in summer time internships and co-op programs? How good are the resources made accessible to the students? Most importantly, are the courses you want to study offered by the college, and if so, does it specialize within this field?
The Social Aspect
Do you see yourself joining a fraternity or sorority, if your college has a Greek method? What is the college spirit like, and are there sports and other activities available? Even though definitely not the main reason you are going to college, the social life on campus will be essential for your experience there.
Although there are many options in terms of monetary aid, cost will be a factor inside your decision. You should be open to consider each public and private colleges, to evaluate and assess what each need to provide.
