Bizarre Items Stopped At Security Checklanes

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

Although people tend to travel because of available cheap travel options, such as cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, discount travel deals, and cheap vacation packages, instead of complaining about how long it sometimes takes to get through airport security lines they should be thankful what security officials prevent from being carried onto planes.

The following are some of the strangest things caught by airport security, according to Smarter Travel:

• Human skull fragments were found inside clay pots that tourists had purchased. Although the fragments of human skull were not considered a security threat they were treated as evidence in a crime scene and confiscated.

• A checked bag exploded into three foot high flames caused by a combination of a leaking can of hair spray and a lighter which sparked when the bag was being loaded onto a conveyor belt. To be safe, all liquids and aerosols should be stored in plastic bags in case of leaks.

• A family tried to haul a dead body through airport security in a wheelchair in order to avoid paying a fee to transport a deceased person. This is not as uncommon as you might think as evidenced by a mother and daughter team who tried to smuggle a 91 year old dead man onto a flight by placing sunglasses on him and transporting him via a wheelchair.

• Cannonballs can retain their explosiveness for years and randomly detonate on their own. In 2012 a diver tried to bring home an old cannonball he found near a shipwreck.

• A man tried to transport 240 fish in four large hard sided suitcases that were filled with nothing but water and fish. Strange, particularly since most airlines allow fish to be shipped via cargo.

• Trying to transport boomerangs in carry-on in U.S. bound planes is a “no no” since this item is considered a deadly weapon and will be confiscated by airport security.

• A container of dead venomous snakes was found in checked baggage at Newark Airport. It is not illegal to transport dead snakes but they must be inspected due to checkpoints explosive detection system alarms.

• 18 severed heads were discovered in luggage at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. They were medical specimens and lost due to a mix up in paperwork.

• One couple was caught at an airport in United Arab Emirates when they tried to smuggle their young son, who did not have a visa, into the country by packing him inside a carry-on bag.

• A person tried to take a samurai sword past security at Boston’s Logan International Airport recently.

When in doubt about what you can bring onto a plane, go to the Transportation Security Agency’s (TSA) website or mobile app and use its “Can I bring? feature. It is very easy to use – simply type in whatever item you are questioning and you will receive an immediate answer.
