When hiring your holiday car hire in the UK, here's a few tips on how not to get ripped off
The
summer holidays are just around the corner and us Brits are looking
forward to our 2 weeks in the sun away from the helter-skelter of our
daily lives
So whether you're sunning yourself on the beaches of the Algarve,
The Spanish island resorts or France, Portugal or Italy, it is far more
convenient to have our own mode of transport rather than have to rely
on the local transport services That is not to imply that there is anything wrong with the respective public transport services but simply that it is far better to explore at a pace and time scale that suits our holiday mood best
But herein lies' a potential problem, one that could thwart our precious holiday and cost us a small fortune in the bargain.|But there's a possible problem, one that could derail our beloved holiday and end up costing us a small fortune in the bargain. What on earth is this article getting at?
Car hire or hiring a car that is comparatively cheap and also covers us for most of the eventualities that insurance firms say that we must protect ourselves against. How do we go about this and what are the difficulties that we should avoid?
It does pan out cheaper if you book your hire car well ahead of your travel dates. This will also help to ensure that you are more than likely to be able to set aside a vehicle of your preferred choice.
Reconcile yourself to the fact that you will have to search through
quite a few websites to find the most competitive car hire rates
If you are pressed for time however or frustrated by having to perform endless searches, then try going for a company website that does the comparisons for you. Companies such as getcarhire.com/uk.htm offer to check most if not all of the top suppliers to find you the best rates.
So far, so good! But here comes the tricky bit, how do you know if the company that you hired your vehicle with offers you the protection that you need?
One thing is for certain any company that you hire a car with in the UK will try and sell you their preferred insurance policy as they will no doubt earn a substantial commission for doing so.
Is it the right one for you and does it cover you for the essentials such as tyre and windscreen damage, excess insurance and collision damage waiver (CDW)?
Self-serving agents at check-in airport desks across the continent will often try and pressure you into accepting their 'favoured' excess insurance policies as this is more than likely part of their job remit and a huge commission earner to supplement their meager salaries.
So what are the best options? Always shop around to arrange your own insurance, this will inevitably result in a cheaper premium and will also mean that your diligent research has ensured that your coverage extends to giving you the utmost peace of mind so that you can simply concentrate on enjoying your holiday.
One thing also worth noting is to understand whether the fuel is a full-empty or full-full policy from your hiring agency?
A full-empty policy could potentially mean that you lose out twice as
you will invariably pay more for the full tank than you would at the
pump and you will also lose out when returning the vehicle as it is
practically impossible to return the car on empty.
The full-full tank policy would be the preferred choice even though you
may pay a slightly higher rental charge, as you needn't have to worry
about being stranded with an empty tank just before you get to the
airport.
Hopefully, this article might help to ensure that you don't get ripped off when hiring a car and that you can enjoy a relaxing time without having some of the avoidable niggles that can so often ruin a holiday.
