Disney World’s Top Rides & Attractions

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

Often it is easier to visit Disney World via cheap travel options such as cheap airplane tickets, cheap fares, discount hotel rooms, cheap deals, discount travel deals, and cheap vacation packages than it is to decide which rides and attractions to visit once you are there.

Given limited time, how do you decide between visiting “It’s a Small World” vs. “Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith?” What do you most highly value – the thrills, storytelling, nostalgia or any number of other considerations? Walt Disney is known for having said “it’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

The following are the best Disney rides and attractions, according to James Riley:

• Expedition Everest is the newest attraction at the newest theme park at Walt Disney World, until the upcoming Avatar land opens. The story commences the moment a guest enters the surrounding Tibetan town of Serka Zong, with Yeti imagery imperceptibly introducing the ride’s star before the queue is even entered. Riders delight in the story plus immersion plus ripped up tracks.

• Soarin’ is more than simply a hang gliding simulator. It is one of the most peaceful rides in all four parks for guests who do not have a problem with heights. It feels very relaxing to glide over aromatic orange groves with the wind blowing through your hair and having your feet just about brush the waves of the Pacific.

• Star Tours is a new ride with random destinations such as Darth Vader and rebel spies. This is the best and only way to travel to a galaxy far, far away.

• Jungle Cruise used to be one of Walt Disney’s favorite rides because he loved hearing the various captains’ spiels. Laughter adds to the ride’s enjoyment as guests take a cruise through the rivers of the world.

• The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is hosted by Rod Sterling. The elevator drop ride is truly memorable. This attraction incorporates its story seamlessly into a thrilling ride.

• Kilimanjaro Safaris takes guests close enough to its animal stars to make them feel like they are in the wild. Depending on the time of day this can be a quick trip around the savannah or an extended wait on some not to be hurried giraffes or rhinos practically begging to have their pictures taken.

• Space Mountain is Disney World’s concept of Disneyland’s Matterhorn with the lights turned out. While not the fastest ride in the park, clocking in at only 27 mph, in darkness everyone hears everyone else’s screams. Space Mountain has plenty of twists and turns guests never see coming. Although Space Mountain is often the first coaster ride many young Disney guests experience, this ride holds up no matter the age of the rider.

• Pirates of the Caribbean takes guests on a pirate invasion of a Spanish fort. This was the last ride Walt helped develop. This gentle boat ride passes some of the oddest pirate skullduggery ever seen at a theme park.

• Peter Pan’s Flight commences with a pirate ship sailing out of the Darlings’ bedroom and flies over London. The intricate modeled detail of London and Neverland makes many a rider believe he is actually flying.

• Haunted Mansion is not your average Disney ride. Cast members encourage guests to drag their wretched bodies to the dead center of the room with no exits beyond your Ghost Host’s way. 999 happy haunts welcome guests to their home. Beware of hitchhiking ghosts and try not to lose your head.
The following are iconic honorable mention attractions that you should try to see, if you have time:
• Spaceship Earth is inside Epcot’s giant golf ball. This classic ride inside the geodesic sphere takes guests from the very beginnings of human communication to the present, and then on to the future. The former Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow is well known for making learning fun. Recent enhancements have added interactive elements to appeal to children.

• It’s a Small World tugs at heartstrings as children around the world come together to sing about peace, love, and unity.

• Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction at any park to feature audio animatronics and paved the way for almost every ride that came after it.

One sound piece of advice: instead of making yourself crazy trying to get on as many rides as possible during your stay, take time to smell the roses and really enjoy the rides you take.
